I took an old ironing board, cut a 24" x 60" piece of plywood, put it on the top, screwed it on from underneath, padded it slightly and stapled a sheet on. Works fabulously and probably cost me less than $20.

These are wonderful suggestions! I'm going to try doing that as well. Quilters just come up with the best ideas, don't we!! Clap

I have a larged sized Costco ironing board, but you guys are tempting me MORE AND MORE to take the plunge on this idea. I was ironing the back fabric for a quilt a couple nights ago (which was a huge hunk) and thinking how NICE it would be to have one the giant tops you keep talking about!

I hope this works. I'm still trying to learn how to use photobucket. This should be a picture of my homemade Big Board.

Let's try this again. Just go to my album and you can see three photos of my Big Board that I've had for well over 15 years. I did recover the top last year. On it, I drew the size of the most common squares I make. Helps when pressing them at the end.

Sorry but haven't visited this forum for a few days. Week ago asked for a pic of my ironing set up. Check my webshots page, album 4, misc crafts etc, page 2 and there are some pics of
my sewing room. It is small but OK for me. When I have to sew a large item, usually just throw the flannel sheets on dining room table and iron there but most ironing is small barbie dresses, small quilt squares etc so the TV table is great. Grandma J
