Okay, so this Sunday I threw a small family party for my son's 3rd b-day. After we got done with all the present opening, I went to the kitchen to tidy up a little. I came back a few minutes later and noticed that one of my guests was holding my Gingher shears in his lap! Mad Eek I took a very deep breath and politely asked him what he needed the scissors for, to which he responded that they couldn't get one of the boxes opened so he went and got them. Mad Once I swallowed my heart again, I politely offered to put them back for him and quickly went over to my sewing table to check out the damage (mostly glue from the tape, thank goodness). The thing is, he had to bypass a hefty pair of kitchen shears which were much closer just to get to my sewing area. THEN, he went right past several large pairs of "utility" scissors and removed my Ginghers from their sheath (which, I would have thought would clue him in!) to use them!

When I told my DH what happened, he practically turned white (no small task for a big, hairy Italian/Ukranian).

ARRRGGGHHHH! I guess I'll have to hide them better next time! Frown

Download a clip art skull and crossbones, reduce it until it is small enough to fit on the sheath of your scissors and afix it. Pictures of hangings and various forms of torture also work well as a deterent. You think I'm kidding, don't you? I'll never tell! Eek Wink Roll Eyes Big Grin Razz

I don't know that I would have handled it as well as you did! Smile

My mom always had a "DON'T TOUCH!!!" label on her shears. Growing up, I thought it was silly. I obviously didn't understand! Now that I'm sewing, it only took once for my husband to use mine for something like opening a box before I put the same label on mine. He laughs and thinks it's funny, and he hasn't touched them since! Smile

I've heard that some ladies put a small padlock thru the finger holes so nobody can use them except you!

I usually just threaten everyone with their lives if they touch my scissors...for ANY reason! Eek

my DH always comes into the room and asks me what pair he can use. I think he's finally figured it out. It's the old pair with the broken handle that is sticking out of the mug full of pens and pencils.

Hi you did so good I would of came un glued. When my boys were young they decided to make a swing. They asked me for a knife so they could cut the water hose I said sure. Both boys knew how to handel a knife. They made their swing and wanted me to see it. I walked out back and laying on the ground was my good shears. I almost started to scream but they we so proud of the swing. I asked why they got my shears and they said it cuts better than the knife. At dinner we talked about it and they never touched my sewing stuff again. Lyle had to get me a new pair and the old ones are for the shop. Shamrock

I have to admit, if it had been my DH or one of the kids, I'd have gone ballistic!! Mad My immediate family knows that they are never to touch my "good scissors" unless they are sewing something (my oldest are learning). The thing is, it was my SIL's new fiance who fetched them. Why he went to my sewing area instead of to the knife block in the kitchen, which has kitchen shears in plain sight (he literally had to walk about 2 feet from them to get through the room!), is beyond me. But I managed to think clearly enough to preserve the family peace. My SIL can be a bit, shall we say, touchy. Roll Eyes

I think I might try that padlock idea. Big Grin My dad used to do it with our phone (a rotary phone, you remember those...) to keep my sister from making long distance phone calls. She had to ask permission, then he'd dial the phone for her and put the padlock back through the little hole in the dial. Seemed to work... of course, then I'll have to try not to lose the key... Frown Wink
