True confessions from a previous life when I didn't sew...I was 15, I used my grandmothers good scisssors to...give my aunt's poodle mix a hair cut! Yep I was in deep stuff and to make matters worse, I messed up the hinge or what ever it is on the scissors. On the plus side...the dog looked darn good!

Gram used to bring that up frequently through the years, guess she should have thought of the padlock trick. I bought some cheap scissors at Wal-mart (blue flowered) to put on the desk for misc cutting. My sewing equipment is in the sewing room and since it's just DH and myself I've not had to cope with damage to the scissors...yet. Don't know what will happen if I ever move back to the states where I have seven grandkids... me thinks karma will come back and bite me over the scissors/dog problem!

And Delia, you did good girl! They would have been in an evidence bag at the DA's office by now if it had been me. BTW, why did this guy not have a pocket knife? Real men always carry a pocket knife, at least that's what ex hubby used to say. OH, just noticed you live in NH...obviously Northern men don't need something in their pocket to prove their manliness like so many Southern men do. Roll Eyes I'm originally from California, so I can talk about North and South...!
Cheers,
KimUK

Kim,

ROTFL!! That's so funny about the poodle! It's also very funny that you mention the whole pocket knife thing. My DH ALWAYS carries, not just a pocket knife, but a multi-tool (like a leatherman). I've actually had to remove it from him on dress occasions like weddings and such. And it wasn't easy!! He's always saying "You never know when you'll need it." This particular guy is former military, so I would've thought he'd be prepared, but no! Heck, even I have a pocket knife! (We northern girls are hardy stock. Big Grin)

Anyway, I kept my temper in the interest of family harmony, being that he's my SIL's new fiance and all. However, any potential future events are fair game IMHO. His head'll be mounted on the wall right next to the deer. Big Grin

I heard a tip once about putting a combination lock through the handles for families who just "don't" get it. Luckily my husband couldn't walk in my sewing room without getting attacked by fabric!!!!

Delia...I used to have a pocket knife too! Actually I've had several. My best one however was sterling silver, very ornate and belonged to my great-grandmother. I kept it in my jewelry box, simply because I didn't want it lost. Found it in my ex's pocket with the blade broken in half!!! Can't list words used in the conversation, but if the blade hadn't been broken.... I'd have been a self made widow! Why did he have it??? He couldn't find his so he knew where mine was, and he used it to turn a stripped screw on a broken lawn-mower.... Men, can't live with 'em, can't shoot 'em!
Cheers,
KimUK

Had to laugh at all of the talk about pocket knives and such. My DH is retired from a supermarket, he was a meatcutter, and in addition to a pocket knife, he carries a box cutter, several of them. I found one in the washer yesterday that was left in a pocket. They are in almost every drawer in the kitchen too. He has put one in my sewing table drawer and I have one in my purse. He knows better than to use my good scissors. That was one of the first things he learned about my sewing equipment when we first met, Don't Touch the Scissors. He passed the test so I married him. Kim, I'd have buried the hilt on that one! Mad Luckily for me, my DH is the one who bought me the scissors, so he knows better. Big Grin Barb, it's difficult not to accumulate box cutters when you're in retail. I was a supervisor for a drug store about 14 years ago, and I'll bet I still have some of those hanging around!
