I believe I mentioned in my introduction, that I am also a scrapbooker! I have a 14x18 room in the basement that is open on one large corner to our family room and the bigscreen tv. I share the room with both hobbies, so it is stuffed to the gills! LITERALLY STUFFED! I think I've finally purged out most of the "general sewing stash, those purchased but unstarted projets that did not involve 100% cotton quilting fabrics" I used to be an asst. manager of a fabric store, and believe me, it's so easy to bring home more fabric than paycheck if you don't restrain yourself. I found a piece of nylon jersey from 1974 in the bottom of a box not too long ago.... not sure what I was thinking the day i bought that, but it was the latest fabric of the time! I'm a cotton girl, and when I pulled it out of the box, it felt so sleezy in my fingers. I donated a huge amount to a missions group, and gave another big group of cotton blends to an after school program that is teaching youngsters how to sew. Sew..... now that I've got only quilting fabric and scrapbook paper to contend with, (they are both addictive, by the way) in case you didn't already know.... I sort by color, and it sits out on open shelves. I don't have too much problem with dust, and being in the basement, don't have any direct sunlight to contend with. I keep smaller pieces sorted by color or strips in those plastsic drawer sets. pieces larger than 4" square by color, and thinner strips by size

The comment on using a hanging shoe bag is similar to what I do with a hanging toiletries bag for traveling. I have it hanging beside my cutting table/chest of drawers (for holding fabric of course). I put misc. quilting supplies in it. Rotary cutter and extra blades, scissors (several pairs)small rulers/templates. One large pocket holds patterns and another holds all the receipts for purchases (trying to get an idea of how much I spend annually on this little hobby). I'm considering looking for a smaller version of this to take with me to quilting workshops for holding the extra stuff and hanging it from a hook or the back of my chair. Just thought I'd put in my two cents worth on this discussion. Cheers, KimUk
I sew, I sew, so off to work I go!

I worked at a bicycle shop for 10 years, so I know *exactly* what you're talking about !

I buy clear plastic drawer units. they are on casters. Occassionally, I go through them and organize but mostly I have blue drawer, green drawer, red drawer etc.

This is how I store mine. I have several of these cabinets in my "Play Room". This pic was taken back 2 years ago and I have filled all of these up and several more! I am addicted to fabric! LOL! In the center of my sewing room, I have a big church fellowship table that my DH hiked up in height with PVC pipe to allow me to use it for a cutting table and I love it. I have several of the clear drawers on wheels that I have labeled for my next project/s. Jenell, Your place is already reserved in the Play Room! Come on girlfriend! We'll sew some, eat some, sew some, eat some more, and sew some more!!! I will try to take a another pic of my cabinets now! It's like going to my own little store when I go in there. When I ask where can I find this particular fabric, the girls at work say, have you shopped your cabinets yet? I am blessed, and am so thankful for all of it. Every so often I find odd pieces of 70's fabric at the Salvation Army so I buy them for her. You would think it was GOLD... She loves that VINTAGE fabric (I know, were not THAT old) Deb
