I am just curious as to how many of you actually quilt your own quilts, or do you "credit card" quilt? (Send them out for someone else to quilt them?)
As for myself, the FUN is in the piecing! I have a neighbor who has a long-arm quilter and she does excellent work and is VERY reasonable! I let her quilt them!

I do my own and I hand quilt. I find the hand stitching to be most relaxing. It does take a while but I really enjoy the process. I have not tried machine quilting and am sometimes tempted to try it. I would like to hear from those who do machine quilt about how they learned and how to handle large quilts on a home sewing machine.
I machine quilt my own on my regular sewing machine. I usually use the walking foot, but I have also done some free-motion.
I want to learn to hand-quilt and have started doing a "quilt as you go" on some sampler blocks I have hand pieced. It is a slow learning process for me. I have some arthritis in my hands.
I also have plans to learn to use a long-arm. I want to take a lesson on a machine in a nearby quilt shop.

I quilt my own on my Janome 6600. As for how I learned, PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE. I watched an online video of stippling, then practiced on some cheap placemats. After doing four placemats, I started on quilts.
Handling them when quilting on my machine? Well, first you crawl up on the table with each arm spread opposite of your legs...
No, really. I don't find it to be that difficult, but then, most of the quilts I make are only about 60x70 something. I have no need to make bigger ones.
AHEM MISS PAT! I think you are holding out on me here girlfriend!!!
Moi? Whatever do you mean?
I would never hold out on you, my friend.
I really rather try to quilt my own as best I can ... I am not expert, but I plug along as best I can ... means I have more money for fabric ...

It is not from a smiley site ... it is a quilt graphic I found somewhere (cannot remember where) and had stored in my computer that I use sometimes on cards I make.
I just tried to see if I could use it and was surprised when it actually worked ...
