I had already made some 9 patches that are larger than these. So my blocks will be bigger. I have some material now, to get going on the triangles and hexagon's.
So come on Ladies, lets do this together. Post pictures, give tips, etc. I know KimUK was having problems with part of it. Kim, have you worked on it more? Post your problem here and see if someone can help.
Hi Gang, No I've not worked on it for awhile. I've just finished the top for yet another I-Spy quilt. This one is for grand-child number seven. I've just been given the green light to start planning the annual trip to visit the states and so I'm in a mad rush to get these things finished. With the new machine I'm on a roll so hopefully it won't take long and I can get on the Chain-gang!
Workin' on the Jack's Chain, sewing 'round-'round 'round...
I think the fact that I used dark blue thread didn't help much, I couldn't see where I was leaving off and where to attach the next piece. KWIM?
Well, I've got fabric drying on the radiators for the strip swap, time to turn it over!
I've got the notification going so I can keep track. Happy Weekend. KimUk
Hey Chain-Gang! Dorian, I'll probably be in Va and NC sometime in April. I won't get to California this year. Unless of course there is a lottery win!
I'm gonna learn to make this Jack's chain if it's the last thing I do! I hope it's not...my to do list is too long for that!
I have four quilts to finish before the trip to the states. Make that five! Four tops are made just need quilting, the last one is another I spy...won't take long. Well, now that I've had a reality check...I've got to go...the sewing machine calls.
Here's what I've done... I pulled out some scraps to try this with, and I have my first set of 9-patches done, and the corresponding triangles and hex cut.
I've joined the first 9patch/triangle to the hex, and I just know there is some trick to joining the 2nd, and as soon as I figure out what I'm doing wrong, I think the rest should go smoothly.
I just can't get my 9patches to come together for a nice point on the triangle. My first thought is something is off where I've joined the 1st 9patch. I've ripped it out twice now. and I'm about to rip a 3rd time. Think I'll leave it until tomorrow evening. Maybe it'll look different then.
It can't be this hard...

Okay, well, I let a day go by and I ripped it all out again and started over. I think by the 3 or 4th join, I was getting the hang of it. It's still not the best and will require more practice, but I really like the final result and will like it better once I get better at it. The center is prime for an embroidery design (which I also do) and I have ideas running through my head at breakneck speed.
YEAH Lana! that's looking great. I'm glad you were able to overcome that obstacle. You're right, the hex's would be a great place for some embroidery!
I am going to have to get out my triangles and start going on this. I have the triangles cut, and need to see if I have enough material to do the hex's. So that I can see what trouble you both are talking about. LOL
