Thank you Pam!
It started for me like this. I joined the strip swap here on BC. I didn't know what to do with my strips. So I made a bunch of 9 patches with them. Then I came acrossed the Jacks Chain quilt while I was looking at some quilt web sites and just had to make one. My 9patches are a few inches bigger than what they normally are for this pattern, but that was ok with me. Then, I had my dh make the hexagon and triangles template. He had to use a few pieces of drawing paper taped together, as my hexagon was big. But I usually use card stock for templates. I put the hex template on the material and use a ruler on the edges to cut, so no marking there. And for the triangles, I cut a strip wide enough for it, then used my ruler along the edge of the template, so no marking for that one either. But you could mark them, I just took that step out. As for binding, I have never done binding on a quilt with sides like this, so I'll learn as I go Here is the pattern/directions. http://www.quilterscache.com/J/JacksChainBlock.html Dorian |

Clay's Choice |
Thanks, Dorian. I'm going to see if one of my kids can make a heavy plastic template for me. He's a machinist, and I know he works with lathes and metal, so maybe he can whip something up in plastic.
I wonder if the quilt could be "squared up" by appliquing the blocks (the ones along the edges) or fusing them onto another piece of fabric. |
