I think I'll try this. Even with my life so hectic right now, I'd have time to make one block a month, especially since there's no deadline.

Now to put on my thinking cap and come up with some songs/blocks!

Connie, such an amazing idea and so well put together.
January's block for me is easy but sad too. My dad and mum always danced around the house to Bill Hailey & the Comets "Rock around the clock". The last time it was played was Dad's funeral, and yep he died in January! I can't listen to that song now....

Take care and have a great day!

Erica I completely understand how you feel about that song. My precious Mother was a tortured soul who was abused as a child and then again by the man that called himself my father all my life. She loved Ray Charles. When she was very ill and about to go meet her Lord I would listen to one of her favorite songs as loud as my stereo would go. It is "Yesterday" all my troubles seemed so far away, now I long for yesterday.... She's been gone for 16 years and that song still brings tears to my eyes.

For me the song I can't listen to anymore is Distant Drums by Jim Reeves.

Oh yes Jacqui that is an emotional song. Just think how much we are going to learn about each other with this challenge. I can hardly wait to get started. Smile

Do you know what is silly? I didn't cry when she died but 15 years later this song came on and I broke my heart. Silly huh?

Not silly at all Jacqui. I think our minds handle things when we are strong enough to handle them. I'm sure the pain was horrendous stirring around in you all those years. Bless your heart!!

I know, for me, I couldn't listen to any country music because they would make me miss my mom. Because that was the music she listened to everyday. The month of March is still a sad time for me. That is when both my parents passed away though they died eight years a part.
I have an idea for September. "One Day at a Time" sung by Cristy Lane. Those lyrics helped me to remember to take one day at a time when my DH was in the 1st Gulf War.

I had to Google the Distant Drums song as I had never heard it before. Very sad. Judging from the time it was recorded, is it safe to assume he was commenting on Vietnam?

Now I need to Google the Christy Lane song. I am not familiar with country/western music unless you are talking about the real old stuff like Patsy Cline.

There was a real polarization of music there for a long time, but the last 20-30 years have brought more crossover music, starting with folks like Glen Campbell and Roger Miller. And that, as Martha would say, is a good thing.

I may disagree with what you say, but I will defend, til death, you're right to say it. Voltaire
