I can't wait to see what you ladies come up with for this challenge.

This is so interesting!

Meg you have stumped me again. I don't recall anything about Puffing Billy. LOL

No you do not have to reveal anything about your block until you post it. At that time you will tell us all about the block and what it represents to you.

Puffing Billy is the name of the theme song from Captain Kangaroo! I told you it had nothing to do with the program. It was actually written by an Englishman after seeing the engines on the Isle of Wight. It would have been better suited to Thomas the Tank Engine, but Bob Keshon found it first. I loved that song and eagerly awaited it every morning!

Remember the blocks on the front of the table in the treasure house that spelled Captain Kangaroo? The only viable idea I have come up with so far is to use tumbling blocks in pastels and medium tones and stencil or embroider the letters to spell out Captain Kangaroo.

Oh yes I do remember the blocks. I think that would make a beautiful square, Meg. Lots of work but I think these quilts are going to be worth it in the long run. Smile

Got a catlog from Keepsake Quilting today. Look what I found on page 80. Somewhere, either on this quilt or the Our Firsts challenge, I have to do a Dick and Jane block!

Oh how fun the Dick and Jane stuff is Meg. Lots of memories. I recently purchased the full set of the Bobsey Twins books, do you remember those? You know maybe after the song lyric block challenge we should do a best book I've read quilt too!!! Always something new to try and think about isn't there?!

I can't believe it is already the 16th of Jan. I have to get busy and get my block for this month finished!! I've got a good start on it though so I don't think it will be much trouble to finish up.

Yes, I do remember reading hand-me-down copies of the Bobbsey twins from my older sisters. I also read The Five Little Peppers. Those were hand-me-down books that my mother read as a girl. I wonder if Mama Walnut and Elaine remember them?

I found a new edition of a collection of Dick and Jane stories at Costco over a year ago, and HAD to buy it!!! Boy, did it bring back memories!! I gave it to Haley, since she can now read - boy, she's quick at learning! Just started Grade 1 in September!!

Now if I could find some fabric with Bob, en Bep en Brammetje, then I'd be a happy camper. Mom read those stories to us (in Dutch) when I was little, even after I started school and learned to read. I think there is a Dick and Jane collection out there, too.

Unfortunately, these don't qualify for song book lyric blocks, do they? But maybe for a special memories of childhood quilt??

Well ladies, how are your blocks coming along? Mine is almost finished, just need to do a little applique to finish it up. I can't wait to see what everyone has worked up. Just one more week to post the January block and be eligible for the best block of the month prize!!!

Have fun!!!

I have been thinking about adding an additional or alternative block to the rules. For those that can't find songs to fit all the categories I thought we might allow blocks that depict your favorite musical instrument. Mine is the Saxaphone. What do you ladies think?
