To make it short and sweet, I cannot seem to make clothes to save my life. I can take the simplest pattern and turn it completely backwards and the sad thing is, I truly want to learn. Well, my mother gave me a very simple shirt and shorts pattern and some extra fabric that she had, to practice on.
I tried sewing the shirt first, and after ripping out the seams 2 or 3 times I finally managed to finish it. I was tickled when it actually resembled a shirt and my daughter could wear it.
And I should have known better than to try and sew a pattern late at night, especially when I told my husband that I really ought to go to bed. So I caught my second wind and started sewing the shorts together and I was plugging along, totally ignoring the voice that kept telling me something wasn't right. (I really need to listen more.) This is what I created last night. I laughed so hard I was in tears. I call these my Humpty Dumpty pants. I just thought I would share! Sorry for the large photo, I keep trying to make it smaller but...
So that you won't feel alone, I'll admit that I've done the same thing. One Christmas I decided to make flannel pjs for all of my SILs and my neices, and with one thing and another I wound up trying to finish them at the last minute. About 3 a.m., one pair turned out just like the one in your photo and I knew it was time to quit! So, don't feel bad -- you're not alone!

I've been sewing since I was 10. Started with pillowcases (to learn to sew straight seams), graduated to aprons, and since then I've make many, many outfits, including outfits for entire wedding parties. And sad to say, I have, not once, but several times, made pants that look just like those! And my Mom, who also sewed most of her life, once made me a cordoroy jumper - the most gorgeous shade of blue - but she forgot about the lay-out for fabric with nap - so I had dark and light on both the front and back of my jumper. I wore it anyway and loved it! Would probably be right in style now!
