OK, I've made this quilt for G-son Joe...looks like a large Warriors shield (to me at least). Anyway, not all of the pieces have lined up properly (my own design as you go fiasco) and I need to insert a block on point into an area where there are no other seams.

I thought ok, outline the block, move in 1/4 inch cut out fabric and then...the darn thing doesn't line up and I've got a bulge at the bottom point. Does that make sense? Any suggestions?

Thanks...Kim

Are you able to post a piccie - it's always easier to see the problem. Would it have been easier to have appliqued the block on first and then cut away the back afterwards. Can you replace the area that is no good using the square in a square theme setting your block on points that way.

Hi Milica, I'll see if I can get DH to bring home the digital camera from school. After you described what I should have done...something that was in the back of my mind actually, I knew it was the right thing to do. Problem being, the block I'm trying to insert is a New York Beauty...you know how thick they get with the fabric you sew it to, then the folded fabric on top of that. I knew it was going to lay funny, but I was hoping I could jury rig it...so far no such luck.
Off to text DH...Does that stand for Dear Husband, Darn Husband or Dead Head?

Thanks for posting the pics - I see what you mean now. Is this a pattern you're using or one of your own designs? I think if it were me I would applique this exactly where I wanted it using a blind hem stitch as close to the edge as possible and then cut out the fabric from the bag so there wasn't too much bulk on that area. Are you going to attach another border?

Hi again.

Thanks for the advice Milica. I think I'll stay stitch the areas where I've cut the triangles out. Then do as you said and applique it on.

It started out as a pattern in Popular Patchwork, the central part with the circles and then the bars going around that. The quilt in PP was very busy with flowers, polka dots, stripes, etc...not my style! I then read the size and realized for a 14 year old, it might cover one leg (and we're a bunch of short people). So then I just kind of used my imagination and when I came across an old issue of PP with the swirls in it on another quilt with odd shaped strips...good enough for me, I'll plagerize anything, but at least I do give credit where it's due.

I'm not going to put another border on. Just the binding which is purple with batiked orange dots.

Jenelle, thank you for the kind compliment. I love it too. If it would work in my house, I'd have it hanging over the fireplace...I listen to Michael Card (contemporary Christian singer)while I work on most of these quilts...El Shaddai was on repeat through most of this quilt...if you know the song, you will know what I mean.

Ya'll pray I can quilt it worthy of a gift for the first born grandson.
Cheers,
Kim
