Hello, I hope you don't mind as a new poster if I jump right in with a few questions.

Recently my Mother passed away, and while going through her things my Grandmother and I found my old paperdolls that she had kept. Granny wants to make a paperdoll quilt, because she had seen one somewhere, but she wasn't clear on how to go about doing this. I haven't done much quilting and I really don't know much about the whole process, but I'll be working with Granny on this if we figure out how to go about doing it. Any helpful links or suggestions on how to make the blocks with the paperdolls transferred on them would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

TJ, that is a wonderful idea! My first thought was applique but now I wonder if the hawaiian style of quilting would be better too. I'm no expert here but lots of ladies are and I know they will jump in soon with their good advise for you. Welcome to BC!

Thank you for the welcome.
Applique is probably what I need to know about. I am clueless as to how I get a picture or a design onto a piece of fabric. Are there services that do this for you?

Does anyone have any experience with miracle fabric sheets?

I'm in the process (okay an extremely slow process since I'm easily distracted Eek) of making paper doll quilts for my granddaughters. I'm using the crayon quilt method. You can google it or do a search here. Basically, you draw the design onto a block (no frills, just a plain muslin or other chosen fabric) using a light table or other method. I use my glass front door and just tape the designs there to mark them. Then you color the block, the same as if you were using it for a coloring page, use either material crayons or regular ones Smile Then use paper towels to heat the wax in the crayon, don't put the iron directy on the crayon wax or you'll be big-time sorry LOL. I can't think of all the steps right now, but those are the basics.

I decided to use the photo fabric and this seems to be working out well. I'll attach a couple of pics of my quilt here. Keep in mind this is my first.

WoW!!! That really is special. I used to play with paper-dolls for hours. I had one of Baby Pebbles Flintstone...my favourite because of all the cute little bones and bows for her hair.
You've done an excellent job.
So sad that it took such a tragedy to get you quilting, but it will bring back some lovely memories for you all the same.
Blessings,
KimUk
