I just have to brag a little here. Last year for Christmas we gave our GD, Jadyn a "Barbie" sewing machine and a bunch of rolls of fat 1/8's. After Christmas, she wanted to sew her own quilt. So I cut out a bunch of 3 1/2" squares for just a simple 4 patch quilt top. She got bored and we put it away. Spring break we dug it out again. Same story...sewed a few and got bored. This summer, she stayed with us for a week when Mom was on her Honeymoon (we love this guy! Big Grin). We started sewing and got the blocks all done and started sewing the rows together.
This is the result. Grandma Jami just got it quilted for her. Just a fairly close meander because I know what she will do with it! Roll Eyes
Here is it...I didn't get her picture with it yet, but she called and just LOVES it... Cheer

Oh yeah...Jadyn is only 7 years old! The Barbie machine does a real lock stitch, but I thought I was going deaf before we got the rows sewn. Talk about NOISY!! The only thing I really did was to sew the borders on for her. Everything else, she sewed with minimal help from anyone. She did good!

I'm almost afraid to see what she will be doing in 5 years! I may not be able to help her at all by then!
My DH and I have been talking and we think we are going to check into a nicer machine for her this year. The Barbie machine works okay, but I know she had to fight to keep it sewing in a straight line. I sewed with it and it wants to pull a little to the left, making the seam allowance to narrow. We had a few seams that had to be re-sewn because of that. Also,
Grandma helped with the pressing...it's one thing to let her sew, another entirely to let her loose with a hot iron! I don't keep enough aloe around the house for that! Wink Big Grin

Jami - she did a lovely job on her quilt! Hope she keeps at it. You should let her read the compliments on her work.
