I have noticed as I sew on my machine that the top piece of fabric always shifts to the left. I thought I was doing this by trying to keep pressure on so it would feed evenly. So I tried to lighten up and even moved my hands to a different position. This pattern doesn't require pinning so maybe that could be part of it, but even pinned, it is still shifting. It's not a fancy machine, just a simple Singer dh bought on the internet. So what do you think? Time for hubby to spring for a better one?

Jenell, are you using a walking foot? I use a Walking Foot and spray baste mine and still pin.
Bless your heart, hope your day goes better tomorrow! Loosening the tension might help too like Jacqui said. It sounds like your feed dogs are not feeding evenly. Has the machine done this all along, or is this a new trick? If it's new, check to see if there is a lot of lint in the feed dog area.
A trick you MIGHT try, to see if it's the feed dogs, tape a piece of index card over the left feed dog only and see if it continues. |

If your fabric is shifting and you are pinning, try pinning in the other direction. We all pin from the outside in........pin from the inside to the outside. This way you are holding more of the fabric in place.
