A friend on another message board has an old quilt of her Grandmother's and the backing is falling apart. She doesn't sew and will be moving to Manhattan, KS in the next month or so, and is looking for someone who can fix it.

Is there anyone here that can help? I told her I'd ask on here, and I also advised her to check with a local quilt store or guild.

Is there any way you can get a picture of the quilt? I'd like to see how bad the damage is; then I could maybe give you an idea of how it could be fixed.

If it's the backing that's going bad, perhaps the best way to fix it would be to put a new backing on right over the old one. Then possibly it could be tied or knotted discreetly, maybe close together in the seams between the blocks, to keep the new backing in place.

The only other way to fix the backing would be to "un-quilt" it, put on the new back and re-quilt it - but I'm afraid that would put too much stress on the fragile fabric, leave holes, etc.

Just some suggestions, sight unseen.

Let's see if I do this right! LOL!

She says that they are maybe 10 - 15 years old (yay, not antique!), and she also says of the first one that she thinks it's fabric in the middle, not batting?

Now for the photos:
