Kathi, you've gotten some great advice here and I hope all goes well when you start it again.

Just a few tips that I'd like to add:

1. Be very accurate in cutting the triangles...it can make or break flying geese units.
2. Be careful with the edges of both the cream and pink fabric. The edges that you are sewing are both on the bias and are very stretchy! Any pulling during the sewing process will cause problems. Sew slowly and let the feed dogs pull the fabric through for you. Only touch the fabric with your fingers if it starts rotating and then gently guide it back into place with your fingers. I pretend that the fabric is "hot" and that I will burn my fingers if I touch the fabric for too long.

I know #2 probably sounds weird, but it works for me, lol! Smile

Another idea is to use the square in corner method, which requires more fabric, but is a lot more accurate. If you have extra fabric, this might be the route you would want to go. Let me know if you decide to use this method and I'll give you the dimensions to cut your fabric for the units. Smile

I've been trying to attach my file, because it has the same info as Gerda's link, but with math instructions to figure what size squares to cut. But I'm having trouble getting it to post. Is there a limit to the size of the attachment? Or is my computer just giving me problems as usual?

I found the problem. As usual, it was the gremlin in my computer that types on my keyboard! Eek I don't have a link to the info, because I wrote it up myself for a class I taught.

For a 6 1/2 by 3 1/2 FG (6 x 3 finished) you need one 7 1/4 inch background square and four "goose" material squares, 3 7/8 inches each.

For other sizes, take the finished size and add 1 1/4 inch for the large block.

For the small blocks, divide the size of the large block by 2 and add 1/4 inch.

If this is clear as mud Big Grin, ask questions.

Hi, Jeb,

Your quilts are beautiful and I love your flowers and kitty photos. We have a pretty black and white kitty, too.

Thanks for sharing your tips and pics, <3 Pat
