Wasn't sure where to post this, so I picked the health section.
Are there any members that have or have had tendoinitis? I am looking for some experience with it.
I over did some file sorting at work for three days straight, not thinking, used my thumbs and finges to sort, kinda like counting money just flipping the corners. And my inner forearms and lower arms are hurting. I called the doctor and they told me it is probably not carpal tunnel, because that does not come on so fast and my fingers are not numb.
They felt it was tendonitis, so I was told to hold off on any fabric cutting, knitting, or things that are repeative with my hands for two weeks. Well, I made it a week and a half and gave in to alittle knitting and some fabric cutting. And I paid for it.
So any suggestions that I may try. I just want it to go away, and be able to enjoy my quilting and other hobbies. And I don't want any long term problems with this.
I am kinda depressed about it. I just think back, what was I thinking doing that much sorting my hand, I am sure I over worked those areas.
Sorry, to rumble, just searching for a kind word and some advice.

Hi Mare - first of all, don't beat yourself up! We all do things we wish we hadn't - I know I'm the queen of that! Smile

As for treatment, following your doctor's advice is the best treatment, but when I damaged some tendons in my knee a few years ago, I followed the RICE program - Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation of the injured part. Also I took Ibuprofin (Advil) to help with the pain and swelling.

It may take two weeks or even more to heal enough to return to normal activities, but you will get there!

I'll be thinking of you and hoping you feel better soon.

Marilyn-

The Lord works in mysterious ways! I had to be out of town one day a couple of weeks and never got to read the paper. I am going through the papers today, getting them ready to throw out. My guys are rather absent-minded when it comes to keeping track of their things. I have found report cards, unopened mailed (and not just junk mail), DH's vacation schedule, and essays for school mixed in with the papers.

Anyway, I came across a rather long article on the front page of the Living section about a method of exercise called Feldenkrais. As I understand it, it is not only a form of physical therapy to relieve pain, including tenditis, but also exercises on strenghing muscles to prevent them.

The focus is on making small concentrated movements, first to the left, then to the right. This is no fad, it has been around for about 50 years, starting in Isreal. It is used by physical therapists and has even been used with some success on children with physical disabilities.

One of the classes being taught in the Detroit area is "Effortless Gardening". Wish I had known about it earlier. I was so tired last night after working in the yard yesterday that even my toenails and eyelashes hurt!

I put up one website about the method. I am sure you could find more if you google it, and masybe even some classes close by.

Hope this helps.

I may disagree with what you say, but I will defend, til death, you're right to say it. Voltaire

Sue and Meg thank you for your replies. I know I have to just rest it up, but everytime I walk by something I want to work on it, so I will have to limit myself.
Meg, thank you for the link, I am all for natural cures for anything, I do not do well taking drugs, so I will diffenitly look into this, very interesting. I truely believe that things just go around in life and we end up back doing things the old fashion way with success, most of the time.
Thank you
