Being Dutch (born in Holland) and raised in Canada, I have had a chocolate initial every Christmas that I can remember. As a kid,and teen, I would only eat a tiny piece every day to make it last. Now, I still buy them for us all and DH eats his the same day, I make mine last a few days! As a child, we would go to the Dutch Community Hall, and SinterKlaas and Zwarte Piet would come and Piet would throw candies and pepernoten (Peppernuts) (little cookies about the size of a nickel) all around the room and we'd scramble to get some!! Fun!! Growing up we did the gift thing a couple of days before Christmas, to separate that practice from celebrating the birth of Christ in church. WE still exchange gifts at the latest Christmas Eve, but now it's just the granddaughters who get gifts in this family - well, the girls give us (Opa and Oma) a little gift, too.
Thanks for the site, Jeni!! will have to keep it in mind for next year - surprise the family in Holland with e-cards!!

Very funny to read this as a dutchy! Everything the other Gerda says is true, but we celebrate " sinterklaas" on the fifth of december, so don't send an e card a few days before christmass, because you're too late by then or verrrrry early.
Happy Quilting! Bama Deb ~ Sweet Home AL I have always been interested in people who make me laugh!!! You can never have a dull moment with these people. And if you happen to have "one of those moments" then it's okay, they just laugh with you.
