This is the fun place so come in and have some fun with quilting trivia...Name that block, book, pattern, website, event in history, etc. Post quilting related pictures or items that might be of interest as brain teasers. This is just for fun and to expand our knowledge in quilting.
Not everyone is a seasoned quilter but this is the place for you seasoned or not so seasoned from a new beginner to experienced quilter. Do you have a question or bit of trivia that might stump the group or maybe the easiest item that might be so simple that it just may baffle us? OR maybe you have an unsual question that needs an answer so ask here. Maybe you own something quilt related that you think would be of interest. *Keep in mind if posting a block or pattern some of them may have more than one name. Be sure to come back and post the correct answer, site, etc. once the guessing has stopped. Let's see how many brain teasers we can come up with and keep this site going all summer long. Come one come all. Have your trivia ready to post... Game On! Happy Quilting! Bama Deb ~ Sweet Home AL I have always been interested in people who make me laugh!!! Yes, Cindy, it is from an old German folk tale. Just as English children believed they were visited by Father Christmas and Dutch children believed that Saint Nicholas visisted, German children believed that the Christ Child brought gifts on Christmas Eve. No self-respecting housewife would want the Christ Child to visit a dirty house, so she cleaned from chimney top to cellar.
A little spider who lived in the corner of the attic of a particular house heard all the hubbub and watched the excitement grow. He listened to the children talk and became more and more curious. When the housewife came to clean the attic, he hid in among the rafters so as not to be tossed out in a dust pan. When Christmas Eve finally came he waited until the house was quiet and crept out from his hiding spot. Slowly he crept downstairs and hid among the branches of the Christmas tree. Of course, he had left cobwebs everywhere behind him as that was his nature. When the Christ Child appeared, being all knowing He sensed that the spider was in the tree. He knew what a good home this was and that the spider had been touched by the children's loving words in order to risk coming out into the open. He also knew the housewife would be mortified the next day when she saw the cobwebs. And so to honor the spider's courage, the loving home and the housewife's efforts, He turned the spider into a golden ornament and the cobwebs into tinsel. I was told this story by a family in the Pennsylvania Dutch area around Lancaster. It is a tradition there to tell this story when you present someone with a gold spider for their Christmas tree.
