Noah's Ark quilt that I made for my cousin's baby:

I machine-appliqued this one and had a lot of fun. I made the pattern from a tole-painting book pattern and then changed the Noah and added a few more details. I took the pattern to the local copy store and made it quilt sized so I could trace the pieces full size.

RUTH!!! Thanks for telling me about tole painting/folk art books - I have some in storage!! I used to do a lot of that, till quilting took over. I never thought of those for applique patterns!! Woohooooo, you rock!! Smile I love your Noah's Ark, and you know, there is nothing wrong with changing things in a pattern - who but you would ever know?? That's called a design decision!!! A couple of applique teachers I have read of, tell you , if a point isn't working (for instance, an inner point) round it off a bit. Thing is, we get better at all this the more we do. You just wait until the last block!! You'll be so amazed at the difference!! I need to get my buns in gear and find some fabrics for this one!! Great job, hon!!

I have used tole patterns for scrapbook paper piecing (basically applique with paper onto other paper) for many years.

I have all sorts of books! So if you ever need a specific topic let me know!

Your quilt is a beauty, my daughter used the Noah's Ark when her kids were babies in the nursery. I love what you have done with this quilt it is just beautiful and so cheery looking. Your cousin will love it!
