There was an interesting segment on the consumer section of the local news the other night. Have you noticed the number of new laundry detergents, both liquid and powder, that are advertised as being re-formulated and require less per load? Supposed to be more eco-friendly as well as easier on the pocketbook.

Buyer beware! The manufacturers have devised a devious method to keep their fingers in your pocketbook! Most of these soaps come with a scoop or a cap which is intended to double as the measuring device. NOT! They are deliberately made larger, the manufacturuers are hoping the trusting public will make the good faith assumption that one capful or one scoop is the correct amount. Get out a measuring cup and measuring the correct amount according to the directions. Pour it into the cap or scoop and mark with an indelible pen or masking tape.

Not only may you be wasting soap, but the more soap you use, the more water it takes to rinse out and the longer the machine has to run. Not only may you be paying for more soap, but for more water and more electricity, as well as not being good for the environment. The more pennies you save on doing laundry, the more you have for quilt fabric! LOL

I may disagree with what you say, but I will defend, til death, you're right to say it. Voltaire

Thanks, Meg!! I use way less soap than the bottle says anyway...really SOFT water and a front loading washer! But you are right about the caps "saying" you need more soap! I use about 1/3 of what they say to use!

Even with somewhat hard water, for all of my adult life, I've only used 1/3-1/2 of what is states on the bottle to use. Clothes are still clean and a bottle lasts me a long time!
