DS1 and DDIL called just before we left for the day to say they had arrived in Ketchikan. Apparenty, DDIL doesn't have her sea legs yet and had a touch of seasickness, but other than that they survived.
I spoke to them when we got home. DS said some of his old stationmates from his first billet were on the ferry, going to other parts of Alaska, so he quite enjoyed the impromptu reunion. They think they have already found a "house." A man who works on an oil rig owns a building in Ketchikan with three flats. The top floors already have Coastie families in them, and the last tenet in the bottom flat had a Coastie as well.
There is a small park nearby that the Coastie wives have adopted and they plant flowers there and keep it neat and tidy. DDIL would so love that! She even offered to maintain the guys vegetable garden when he is away if she could plant some things too. She was very disappointed at the thought that she might not have a garden this year.
Don't know yet when their furniture will arrive. They took an air mattress, dishes, and camping equipment with them so they will get by until it arrives.
Whew! I have been holding my breath for nine days now. I can stop worrying!
Good news, Meg! I hope they are very happy in their new home. Sounds like they are starting to settle in already ...
Hope you get to go visit them sometime ... what an adventure you would have ...

Meg, So happy to hear everyone arrived okay. Also great to hear that your DH appears to be out of the woods with the museum. Now you can relax and enjoy the summer!
