Have a new grand daughter on the way. She will be born in April. I would like to try a shaggy flannel quilt. I think I need to cut flannel squares 4 1/2" square of both front and back flannel. Do I cut the wadding the same size? I also understand that I am best sewing 1/2" seam rather than 1/4". I have already washed the flannel.
Cheers

Hi Ruth,
Nope, you cut the wadding about 1 1/2 inches smaller - so you'd cut yours about 3 inches.

Here's a pretty good link with instructions - just scale down the size. http://www.gardenandhearth.com/CajunQuiltConnection/Free-Rag-Quilt-Pattern.htm

Hope this helps.

Thanks Nola. Just the kind of advice I wanted. Don't think will be in a rush to make this one. Temp today is round the 100 degrees.
Cheers

I'll trade you temps., Ruth! We're coming into winter here in the States - we're supposed to get freezing rain/sleet/snow this weekend! Don't mind the snow, but freezing rain is my very least favorite kind of weather! Will have to get out my ice grips for my shoes, I'm afraid! Always afraid I'll fall, and I have to go out no matter what the weather is, to do the farm chores!

Glad I was able to help with the shaggy quilt. I'm planning to start a couple of them after the holidays.

Hugs,
Nola

Nola - do those ice grips work well? I've been thinking of getting them. Are they the ones that fit around the heel and then the toe of shoes?

Doreen, yes, I love my ice grips! Mine are the ones they call Yak Trax - they're a very heavy rubber wrapped with piano wire. I just stroll along like I was on dry ground with those things. The local store that sells them here just about sold out last year - the Post Office bought them for all their city carriers, and now the paramedics and firemen are using them. The company my hubby works for bought them for their employees too. Guess they figure the money they save on insurance for fall injuries more than pays for the ice grips.

My neighbor has the kind that have studs on them - sorta like sports cleets, but he says the problem with them is the snow builds up around the spikes and you have to stomp your feet often to get the snow off.

My Yak Trax just fit over the toe of your shoe, then you tug it up over the heel - easy on/easy off. Sure makes me feel more secure!!

Big Grin I ordered the green, glow in the dark ones so in case I fall anyway, I can wave my feet in the air and be rescued!

Doreen, I love those green ones! Slime green, as my son & his friends call that color! DS even has a truck painted that color!!

One thing about it, if you do fall anyway, they'll be able to track you easily - the grips leave the most interesting pattern in the snow and ice! My neighbor man says it looks sort of like a quilting grid! I wear mine everywhere as I'm so afraid of falling! Would be OK if I landed on my backside as it's very well padded - but I do worry about broken hips, etc.

Hope you like your Yak Trax ice grippers as well as I like mine!

I have had a long history of falling on the ice. About every five years or so, I take a really good spill. Where can I get these? I have never heard of them before.
