I need help with the starting of a new thread in the blanket stitch. I am doing it by hand, I have run out of thread so I have knotted it and am ready to start again. But how do I start so the thread will show on the bottom edge of the fabric. When I try to start like normal I have about a 1/4" of fabric not covered with the thread. How do I restart so this doesn't happen?

I hope that makes sense.

Jody, is your last stitch a complete stitch, so it looks like the end of the row is "joined 3s"? Know what I mean, does it look like the whole row you've done?
If so, just put your needle in from the back where the elbow of your last stitch is, then make your next stitch.

I'll see if I can find some diagrams to help.

Jody, when a lady showed me how to do the blanket stitch, she went back 2 stitches, and just started like new, and just 'over-stitched' the 2 previous stitches...I've used this method several times and it's works/looks fine. Might give it a try..
