Jenell, you are ironing the fabric before the sizing sinks into the fabric. You have to spray and then wait a few seconds before putting the iron to the fabric. I usually spray a large area and wait a second or two and then iron. You'll find that you will no longer have brown spots on the ironing board cover or your iron.

I also use parchment paper if I'm irong a lot in the same spot! This will help too!

Thanks Betty, I bet you are right. I was trying to get it done faster. I still have 3 rows of blocks to go so I will test it out tonight. Anyway to get it out of the ironing board cover?

Jenell,
I have never noticed it making the iron board brown, but I know I have to clean the sole plate on the iron more often.

Jenell, I wholeheartily agree with Betty on your ironing. I want to add though, sounds like you are using too much too! With sizing, it takes such a small bit, and I always wait for it to sink in to the fabric. To remove that brown from your iron have you ever heard of faultless Hot Iron Cleaner? It is the ONLY Iron cleaner I use! It comes in two little blue/white tubes in a pkg at Walmart for less thn 2 bucks I think. Make sure your iron is hot and you use an old towel to iron on. It will make your iron so smooth and pretty on the bottom! I love it!

Rowenta also makes a cleaner for their irons. But it's hard to find. Dorene I'm glad you mentioned the one at Walmart. I will be looking for it. I do so much fusible that I use it regularly! It's a miracle to see it do it's thing!

The difference between sizing & spray starch has always been a mystery to me too. I prefer starch and just love Mary Ellen's BEST PRESS. Fons & Porter sell it but I got mine at my local quilt shop.
According to an Alex Andrson show, to clean a dirty iron, take your hot iron and rub it over a dryer sheet. I tried it and yep it works. She also said to put salt on a terry towel and rub your hot iron over the salt. I haven't tried the salt test yet.
Need a remedy on how to get red grape juice out of white carpet? That's a good story.

Rebecca, I can't help ya with the red stain on the carpet except to tell ya, put a rug down and cover it up! LOL~
No I am sure someone will come along that can help ya~

I will have to try the dryer sheet technique. Is a used dryer sheet or a new one?
