I have to travel with my husband on a business trip and to be honest...I get bored while he is in his meetings during the day. (but I love the break away from the kids!) I would love to take my sewing machine along but I do not know if it would be allowed as a carry-on on the airplane. Has anyone ever done this and how did it go?
Thanks for your help! Dawnijo |

Dawnijo-
If in doubt...CALL the airline. They will be able to tell you if it is allowed and also if it is small enough to be classified as carry-on. For sure, you would probably have to put anything that would be classified as a "weapon" in your checked baggage. I haven't flown with my DH, but when I go with him, I always take my sewing machine. Makes the day go faster until he gets out of his meetings. Jami PS- Welcome to BC...you'll like it here. The Ladies are all so helpful! |

You would not beleive what I did last year. I called the Hotel and asked the Concierge if he could arrange for me to have a sewing machine in my room for the stay. He did but it was older than I am! It was funny, but I am not doing that again. I am too spoiled with my computerized sewing machine.

Dawnijo -
Definately call the airline. My initial reaction would be that they would not let you carry it on - not because of the size, but because of the unknowns inside. However, the best way to know is to talk to the airline. The rules change so often these days ya know!! I would recommend some serious packing around it because they are really hard on luggage!

I'm planning on taking my brand new Janome 720 as a carry-on later this month. Think I should save the book and carry it on in the box??? I haven't gotten a carrying case for it yet.

Oh, I would only take it if I could carry it on. I would never let my sewing machine leave my sight. I have had several suitcases come back destroyed.

LoveToQuilt - You say you are taking your Janome? Have you called the airline or anything? I need to find out who we are flying so I can call them I guess. I have a case for my Janome but it is not a pull case. I definately want a pull case to get me thru the airport.
