My Walmart carries a couple of different sized rulers that have slots and will allow you to cut strips around the edgess of fabric...like what you see on the fleece blankets. Good luck with your search, I figure several other craft/quilting places would carry them also since the fleece blankets are so popular. Happy Quilting! Hi, ksgirl,
to BC!I don't have any easier way to cut the fringe of a rag quilt other than using a pair of short blade spring-action scissors and making tiny cuts about every 1/4 inches. Yeah, the hands do get tired. ... unless maybe you have a lot of extra cash on hand and want to buy one of those very expensive accu-cut systems with the plates ... I actually do know someone who has one of those and she has a plate to pre-cut rag squares with the fringe before she sews them together ... it is pretty nice ... but she sells the rag quilts at craft fairs so I guess it all works out for her ... But I can help with the calculating fabric question. On the front page of Block Central there is a feature that has some quilt caculators for us. One is for squares: http://www.blockcentral.com/calc-squares.shtml If you put in your square size, width of fabric, and number of squares you need, it will tell you how many strips you need. Then your just need to figure how many strips you will get from each yard and go from there. For example; If you want 5" squares, Your fabric is 42 inches and you want 120 squares = you will need 15 strips ... 36 divided by 5 means you will get 7 strips per yard. So you need 2.25 yards of fabric, I think. Being me, I would get 2 and a 1/2 yards to be on the safe side. Hope this helps And I hope maybe someone here knows an easier way to cut fringe on rag quilts ... would sure help the hands ... This message has been edited. Last edited by: scrapatches, |
