Alright Connie, when am I suppose to work on your WH? This is too cool! I'm in...I've got to really read your tutorial first. But I would love to learn that! You with "waves", Dorene with MaryKS's "fantasy floral"!

Betty I'm glad you like the pattern. I think it is going to be a fun project. I'm hoping to get my squares sewed together soon and start an album. Now all I have to do is decide on a design. LOL

Connie, this is very similar to a curved block/border that I taught at guild a couple of years ago. The original pattern was in an issue of
Quiltmaker, I do believe. Let me check. Yep, the Sept/Oct 2002 issue # 87 has the curved no template block, and the border pattern is in the book "Time Crunch Quilts" by Nancy J. Martin of Martingale That Patchwork Place published in 2000. It IS fun and easy to do, and very different effects can be had. I will be trying this, though - looks neat, and reminds me of the Drunkard's Path blocks and layouts, log cabin too. Thanks Gerda Count your blessings, name them one by one. I spent an hour or so last night putting some blocks together. I almost have the first row of my quilt made. I was having some trouble making the points match and it finally dawned on me that I needed to pin them like I do with triangle points. They are looking better, not perfect, but better.

Connie -
You temptress, you. Now I want to do THIS one, too. I'm in to at least try it - I've printed out the directions and will try later this week - between all my deadlined swap projects. LOL I'm looking forward to this. Someone in my Calif. guild did something similar to this for a My Pick with 12" finished blocks. We were told what colors scheme to use and to use at least 3 different fabrics. Our cuts were across the fabric - not diagonal. Interesting results. Linda O Texas |

I finally got around to reading this properly. It looks like fun. I did try something like this ages ago but had far too much curve and like you said it was too hard so I just threw it away. I am going to give it another try.

Go for it, Midge! The key is GENTLE curves.

Connie, I've seen this demonstrated on TV. It must have been fun learning the technique from the creator! Maybe sometime in the future I'll give it a whirl too.

Yes Gerda is right the more gentle the curves the easier the piecing. I watched Scott Murkin sew a few blocks during class and he stitched them together so fast it was like he was stitching a straight line on a machine he had worked with for 20 years. But it was in fact a seven inch block with lots of curve on a brand new machine that we all learned how to use that day. It was amazing to watch how fast he could do it. But he kept emphasizing that the trick is in the precise triming, not in the precise sewing. Hope you guys enjoy it as much as I am!!
