Is anyone out there working on the Jane blocks or thinking about it?
I am thinking about it, I have her book of patterns and was wondering if anyone would want to make blocks for ourselves and post them in an album? You could make your own album since there are so many blocks in this quilt. Maybe you have the blocks on CD, DVD or some other media. I am just beginning to play with 4" blocks and would welcome some company in how-to with tips and encouragements! What is your thoughts, opinions or just curiosity? OR maybe you can step in and offer some tips because you have made or started these blocks. Yeah I know I have a lot of WIPs also but what is one more this is a project that will take a long time so why not start and work on one or two a month??? Any thoughts??? ideas??? Those who have shown an interest & or have an Album posted also in the Jane Stickle challenge: Betty Gerda Kim http://blockcentral.net/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/5191096833/m/1021007833 Meg Michelle http://blockcentral.net/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/6971052502/m/2251033733 Milica Suzanne Wasie Deb Owens http://blockcentral.net/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/6971052502/m/1521022733 Kim has given her blessing to get this project off the ground and flying. She HAS giving us a Jane Stickle Topic line so we can find it easily. RULES & GUIDELINES FOR JANE STICKLE BLOCKS I} This is an open ended challenge to anyone & you can join in at any time. To learn new skills and techniques and offering encouragement for making small blocks, you keep your own blocks! II} The block size will be small 4”- 5” blocks from your choice of patterns {you provide your own}. I have chosen to make the Jane Stickle {225} patterns but you are welcome to join in and make patterns of your own choosing; the idea is to get comfortable making the smaller blocks and above all have loads of fun! III} You can purchase fabric or use fabrics from your own stash. The book recommends: 5 yards background fabric with a total of 8 yards for the entire quilt. IV} The challenge is to make 4 blocks a month and post them in the album by the end of the month. However you are welcome to work at your own pace and make more than the 4 a month. These blocks may be hand or machine stitched your choice. V} We will start at the beginning of the JS book and move forward. You may opt to skip a block, depending on the skill level. *Life happens and if you can’t met the months challenge then just let me or the group hear from you. VI} We will be making our own individual albums to post our blocks. Pictures must be 50KB or smaller. Need help with creating an album? I am willing to help you with that. *Give the pattern owner credit for your patterns on your album page by posting the book title or website as a courtesy to them …just a suggestion. Hi, Deb! I have her book and CD (as well as Dutch Treat by Judy Garden - hers is REVERSE applique!). I want to start them, but I keep getting myself into all this other stuff!!!
But seriously, I wouldn't mind doing this along with you - just be warned, you'll be way ahead of me!! Let me know which blocks you'll work on and I'll do the same ones. Will that work for you? Do you have the rulers for this? There is a specific set, because of the odd shapes of her border blocks. I don't have it, but may buy them later this year or early next year. As for WIPs (isn't that so much more positive than UFOs??!!??), I've got so many, I could give you a run for the money. Besides, that way we can never say we're bored with the current project - there's always another one to work on! And if they don't all get done, who cares? We are creative ladies, and we like to create! Hugs!! Gerda A day hemmed in prayer seldom unravels. Keep looking UP! When it seems there is no way out, there is always a way up! |

I'll have to decide what colour scheme to use - what are you planning? You always make such great combinations and choices in colour! I have a decent stash, but not much goes together - I don't have a lot of "solids" - need to get me some!! Tiny blocks like that don't work for prints!! Argh!!!

Deb-
Funny you should bring this up. I keep reading about Inklingo and went to the website to see what all the fuss was about. To make a long story short, somehow I ended up on a Yahoo group making Jean Austin, Dear Jane, and Dear Hannah quilts. Think I am in way over my head, glad to have some company! Meg Proud Coastie Mom http://www.myquiltblog.com/ohiorose53/ http://www.serialquilters.com/ohiorose53 I may disagree with what you say, but I will defend, til death, you're right to say it. Meg, I've never heard of the Jean (Jane?) Austin quilt - now see what you made me do? I have to look it up! Gerda A day hemmed in prayer seldom unravels. Keep looking UP! When it seems there is no way out, there is always a way up! |

WOW!!! I am surprised to get a quick response...great minds eh?
Gerda I would be happy to help you with your pics. How is your house coming along? I am in no hurry to begin. You mentioned rules...you lost me there, I have so much to learn. Meg Sounds like you have some experience on the subject which is great! I joined the Jane news site and they are so far advanced but do have newbies there. I read along and wish! I have a familiarity with those Jean Austin, Dear Jane I Dear Hannah, still learning here. I am eager to hear more from both of you about Jane blocks. Maybe in a few days we will have more interest and excitement here and bee all a buzz. Happy Quilting! Bama Deb ~ Sweet Home AL I have always been interested in people who make me laugh!!! No. hon, I said "rulers" - this is what they look like http://softexpressions.com/software/eq/DearJane.php
Love your last words! "bee all a buzz! Wonderful! The house is coming along - we got the trenching done this week, laid the power cable, fastened it to the power pole for the power company to connect, it's installed in the breaker box, the phone cable is partially laid - have to wait until the electrical inspector has been, then we can start filling the trench back in - with 18" left, we can lay the phone cable, then continue filling in. Some can be done with the skid steer (like a Bobcat) the rest by hand. The pilings for the deck support got poured today - I got to trowel!! Boy, I'm easily amused, huh? Anyway, keep me posted as to when you want to get started. I'll start thinking about colours - I may just go scrappy like the one pic I showed the link for. Jane's was scrappy, too, but all browns - blech!! Oh, and Meg, was there a pattern available for the Jane Austen one? Other than this? http://www.jasa.net.au/quiltclark.htm Gerda A day hemmed in prayer seldom unravels. Keep looking UP! When it seems there is no way out, there is always a way up! |

Speaking of Inklingo (hey, TeXas, did you ever get that? What's it like? Is it worth it? How are you, BTW? Still think about you everyday, and miss you! Hugs!), I saw Linda Franz on QNN showing her diamonds and how to do them - the whole two hour show! - wow, those are beauties! Maybe someday I'll make a few - ya think?!?
Well, it's time to get off here - almost time for the news, then bed. Night, all!! Hugs! Gerda A day hemmed in prayer seldom unravels. Keep looking UP! When it seems there is no way out, there is always a way up! |

Debo
My parents bought me the Dear Jane and Dear Hannah Books complete with CDs about 6 agos - I looked through the books and first impression was 'beautiful' then 'I want to make' follwed by 'yikes - will do that soon' and needless to say 'soon' has not arrived yet!! Jenny, a member of our Christmas Quilters made one entirely by hand as some of the pieces are really small and it is absolutely gorgeous - I think I have a piccie of it which I will attach - in the piccie it's not quite finished. I would love to see piccies of yours Meg and anyone elses. Milica |
