Nola - I have not seen the top so I will try to meet up with her this weekend if I could. I'll take a picture of it as well and probably make a suggestion on how to quilt it with her and with you. I am not going to commit a price to her until you have had a chance to look at the pic. Also, do you want her to provide the backing and the batting and if yes, what would be your preference? Does your price include this or not? I guess I need to find out more from her. Today is not a good day for me as I have to prepare for a job interview tomorrow and still bake the Amish bread I have here so tomorrow afternoon is the earliest I can get back to you. Thanks for this!

Tata

OIC, thanks for the explanation Nola. Sounds like a perfect way for you to make a few fun dollars. LOL

Tata, here's some things to ask your neighbor:

1. Does she want it to look "poofy" after it's quilted, or does she prefer a more "flat, old-fashioned" look?

2. Does she want a muslin backing, or something pretty to co-ordinate with the top. If it's an older quilt I'd suggest a plain muslin backing.

3. Would probably be best if I'd just buy the backing and batting to save her the expense of mailing it to me. But if she wants to buy her own, that's OK too. My price does not include the backing/batting. I usually buy my backing at my favorite Amish dry good store - they have good quality at a good price. For batting, my personal preference is "Quilter's Dream" - a tad more expensive than the Wal-Mart quality, but Quilter's Dream is so wonderful to quilt - needles very, very easily. I've had some from Wal-Mart that I could hardly get a needle through! Doesn't make for very pleasant quilting!

4. Would she want me to do the binding, or will she do that herself? I don't mind binding at all - in fact, I enjoy doing it. She could make her own binding if she wanted to and just send it along, or I can make it. Will just need to know what color she wants for the binding.

If you could send me a picture or two that would be very helpful. You can go ahead and quote her the price of 50 cents a yard for the quilting if you want to. Of course batting and backing will be extra, as well as binding if she wants me to do it. Just a very, very rough estimate - sort of a "ballpark figure" - for doing the quilting and binding as well as providing the backing/batting would be between $175 & $250 if it's a full-size quilt. A bit more for Queen or King size, and a bit less for a Twin size.

No rush on getting back to me. You just do well on your interview and get that bread baked. I'm not going anywhere and neither is my quilting frame!

If you want to email me at blueheron46733@yahoo.com with the picture and details, that would be fine. Don't use the Private Message tho' - about half the time I don't get the PMs.

Hugs,
Nola
