Has any one heard of this pattern? It seems to be end up looking like a log cabin effect but made with 4 patch blocks. Thanks

Beautiful quilt....looks cool. Not too hard to make a pattern if you stare at it long enough.

Just looks like blocks with 1/2 sq triangles placed in the right spots.... Actually they are 9 patch with either the top right/bottom left OR the top left/bottom right (diagonals) as 1/2 sq triangles and the middle block of each 9 patch being a red square.

I found it easiest to see from the bottom right of the quilt.

Here is a link to Marcia Hohn's site for the pattern: http://www.quilterscache.com/S/SplitNinePatchBlock.html

I really like the way they laid out the blocks in that quilt...1 more added to the never ending list!!!

Thanks guys, I also love the way it was laid out, simple block but looks striking.
I see 30's fabrics in this one.
Thanks

I've made two of those, from Marcia's pattern. Here's one of them -- http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v66/AuntiePam/Quilts/diamondquiilt.jpg

That layout gives sort of a diamond effect. The other one (no photo) I laid out in a zig-zag.

With one of them I used half-square triangles -- the other was all squares. Definitely lots of possibilities!

Also, this is one of those layouts that unless you have a nice big design wall, you'll want to use those row and block markers (or post-its) to make sure the blocks don't get turned around.

I finally bought a packet of pre-marked plastic markers -- Row 1 Block 1, Row 1 Block 2, etc. It saved my bacon!

I love this block, too, but I've never seen it laid out log cabin style like that. It's definitely got lots of possibilities. Yours is beautiful, Pam!

Mare ... beautiful quilt Smile

Pam ... ditto Smile Smile

I just read an interesting article in the current issue of Fons and Porter's Love of Quilting (May/June 08) magazine called "This Old Quilt – Splitting the Nine Patch" that shows several layouts of these blocks, including a zig-zag and a barn-raising. Unfortunately, this article does not have online pictures. It is well worth a look though, if you see a copy anywhere.

I have never made this pattern ... but now it has been added to my never-ending "list" ...

so many quilts ... so little time ...
