Hello ...

I have been looking for some time for a pattern for a quilt I saw a couple of years ago ... so it must be an older pattern.

The pattern is for a wall banner quilt in red/white and blue that had folded fabric pockets for a 50 State Quarter Collection.

I really want to make this as a gift for someone.

Any suggestions as to where I might locate this pattern would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Pat

Have you tried googling it?

I have a couple ideas - but you'd have to "design" it yourself.

Draw a map of the US with all the states, use several fabrics so all states touching others are different fabrics, label each state, and put clear vinyl pockets on each state shape for the quarters. Put the smaller states' (VT, NH, DC, HI, etc.) pockets off to the side with dotted lines.

You could also make individual squares for the quarters, alphabetically one for each state, label them, and put vinyl pockets for the quarters.

On neither of these ideas would the pockets need to be folded, just flat vinyl squares sewn on on three sides.

I think either of these would be a pretty WH for the quarters.

Hmmmm - maybe I should design and market these ideas?

Linda ... maybe you should ... your ideas are very different from the quilt I saw a couple of years ago. You most likely would have quite a market for the pattern.

I revived this search because I got a couple of new dollar "president" coins in my change somewhere over the weekend and thought ... hmmm ... these would be nice in a display quilt, too ...

So, Linda ... go to and design one for the president dollar ones, too!

I really would like to make the quarter quilt as the perfect gift for someone.

I saw the quilt over two years ago and talked with the woman who made it and asked her if it was her own design. She said no, that she had used a pattern. At the time I was not ready to make such a quilt so I did not get details on where she found the pattern. So I do not know who the designer is, if it was a single purchased pattern, from a book or from a magazine.

If anyone has seen a quilt like the one I described and knows where I might buy the pattern, please let me know,

Pat

Pat, I know exactly which pattern you are looking for. I've seen it too, but like you, I can't remember where. I'll keep looking and if I find it, I'll let you know right away.

OK, Pat, I may have it. In the Better Homes and Gardens magazine called "Quilting Ideas", Winter 2002, there is a wall hanging for State Quarters. It is 19 1/2 x 36 - the left side is blue and white squares with folded pockets for the quarters, and the right side is red and white stripes.

I'll try to scan the picture and send it to you if you'll email me at blueheron46733@yahoo.com with your email address. I can send a full size picture to your email addy, but with a PM the pictures have to be smaller.

If this turns out to be the pattern you want, I'll send you the magazine, or share it with you.

Hi, Nola,

That wall hanging is very nice, but it is not the same as the one I saw a few years ago ... hmmm ... unless maybe the quilter made it in such a manner that it hung vertically instead of horizontally. Confused

Hmmm ... looking at it more ... I think it just might be the case. Smile

I would like this pattern and I will PM you.

Thanks, Nola!!!

Pat, you could always make the red and white stripes a bit wider, then add a couple more across the bottom including the blue area to make it look a little more like a real flag. And I agree, it would look better, in my opinion, hanging vertical instead of horizonal.
I'd never given the pattern more than a passing glance before, but you know, I might just make one of these for myself - I've been collecting those quarter ever since they started minting them - only have the last 4 or 5 to go.

I'll put the pattern in the mail to you this morning.

Nola

P.S. - Linda, I really like your ideas too - I think you should make patterns and market them!!! I'd buy!!!
