AuntiePam,
I am in desperate need of information. In one of your posts you stated
:
"I finally bought a packet of pre-marked plastic markers -- Row 1 Block 1, Row 1 Block 2, etc. It saved my bacon!"

Please, please tell me where I can find these, or give me some more information so I can search on-line. I did a basic search, but was unable to find anything like this.

I love to teach beginning quilting, and I love to make samplers and strip quilts. These would be perfect for both.

Thanks,
Vicky

Vicky, I found the markers at a quilt shop. There's no manufacturer info on the markers or the packaging -- just the words "Quilt Dance". I googled Quilt Dance and couldn't find anything.

I'll look in my catalogs and see if I can find them.

Vicky, I found them!

$5.99 is a good price -- I think I paid $7.99 at the quilt shop. The tags are marked for up to 7 rows, 8 blocks in a row. If your quilt has more rows/blocks, they also sell blank tags that you can mark yourself.

Auntie Pam,
I use those tags & just love them. They keep my rows organized. You found them for a great price.

Rebecca, I love them too. Before I found them, I used some of those colored sticky tabs, but they aren't nearly as useful as the plastic ones.

They're absolutely necessary when the orientation of a block is what makes the design.

Another tool I'd like to have is a lightweight, portable design wall. I tried that sticky fabric one but it won't stick to wallpaper. I'm thinking maybe I'll check out Home Depot and see if those foam insulation panels might work. I could use pins on them or cover them with flannel.

AuntiePam, Thank you so much. I am going to order them. That is the coolest thing.

I saw directions somewhere that used Foamboard to make a design wall. I am just not sure where you purchase foamboard. I was going to check Lowe's and Home Depot, but my DH started having medical problems again and I haven't been able to shop much.

Thanks again,
Vicky

Vicky,

I’m a newbie, and am not sure if a design wall is the same as an auditioning wall, but IF it is… I have to share the coolest tip I saw on a quilt show. I’ve done it….and it’s GREAT! I went to the $1.00 store and got two flannel backed table cloths. I have just reclaimed my guest room as a sewing room (so we had tipped the bed and box springs up against the wall, and ribbon tied them to the wrought iron head board (that was bolted to the wall..lol). I realize this sounds horribly ghetto, but it’s not…lol We are so PROUD of our project…lol When company comes it takes about 15 minutes to drop the mattress and box springs and make the bed up. It’s the poor man’s wall bed…lololol

Anyhow… I covered the bottom of the box springs with the two flannel backed table cloths and they are WONDERFUL! My blocks just STICK up there with no effort at all! I’d post some pictures but our computer is in the shop, and I’m yakking on my hub’s work computer. I don’t have access to my photo files.

Foamboard is purchased at places like Mac’s Crafts, or maybe even a Super JoAnns.

I hope your husband feels better soon. Good luck and God bless to both of you!
