On this site there is a ruler called the Mity Ruler. Has anyone ever used it? I am wanting to make a block that calls for a half-diamond shape, split lengthwise. I cannot figure out how to do it with any rulers I have seen so far. Do you think this would work if I used the pointed end?
Meg, it does say that it makes half-diamonds (I'm assuming this is a diamond that is two color?)
The only way I know to make one without this ruler, would be if you had a template for the diamond. Make a strip set, lay the points (lengthwise) on the seam, and cut around the template. I don't know how accurate one would be by eyeballing or even knowing the length. A template (or maybe this ruler) would be your best bet.

Actually, if you know the angle, you can place a strip of masking tape on your regular ruler at that angle, and use that to cut. I would try it on some scraps first, though.

ohhhhhhhh,,, I didn't know. I know just enough about computers to be dangerous!!!. We have Road runner at home which is pretty fast and at work we have (well I don't really know what it is) but it is fast. Since I have discovered this forum I spend most of my time trying to figure out what is going on and what is being talked about. Couldn't figure out what long arm was until I visited a quilting shop this weekend.
I will go back to your original answer and check out the website more thorougly. I'm one of those people who doesn't like to read instructions just give me pictures and I will figure it out. I'm missing the following instruction "gene" Drives my husband crazy.

This has nothing to do with the 9"circle just seeen what Dorian wrote about a diamond shape and this is a site that I had already open and admiring so thought I would post it here.
I wish I could see the center pic just a bit better though.

What I need are half diamonds, split lengthwise, for the four sides of the block. I thought I could do the masking tape tape bit on the ruler. Problem is I don't have a ruler with that angle nor can I find one in the stores. No doubt there is a "home remdy" for this problem; I just can't put enough distance between it and me to see the solution. Wish I had time to put it aside, but I do have a deadline. Guess I will make a template and mark strips cut to right heighth, then use rotary cutter and ruler.
Meg, are you talking about Split Star Diamonds? If you are, I think, you can sew 2 strips together and lay the center of the template along the seamline and cut it out. Trina

Trina- I had never heard of a Split Star Diamond before. Isn't Goggle a wonderful invention!?! I have seen that pattern before, but never heard it called that. I know that pattern as a mariner's compass variation. Yes, that is exactly the shape I need, although I am not putting them together to make a diamond. The problem is to get the angle correct along the bottom edge.
Oh, I wish I could see a picture of the pattern.Trying to visualize it here. Have you laid your ruler on the pattern template to see what degree of angle you have? I am coming from the point of doing so many of Bethany Reynolds Stack and Whack. Trina
