Thought I would come here as I begin this search for a very simple and easy baby pattern, my god sister is having her very first grand baby (girl) and she wants me to make a quilt for her mind you I gave the mother one already, shame how families can't get along to share, my goodness, so it is one of those things that now I would like to have one at my home as well. The first one was a gift this one sad to say will have to be paid for. Wanted to do something a little different this one was from Quilt in a day two for one quilt pattern. So bring them on.
Michelle~ This was posted on the HGTV quilting board and Kathy said I was free to share it. If you like the looks of it let me know and I'll send you the pattern. The shadow applique is a layer of chiffon type material placed over the appliqued block to give it a gauzy look. Very cool!
My all time favorite easy baby quilt pattern, though, is the "Dissappearing 9-Patch." Tutorial here: http://quiltsatcs.blogspot.com/2007/04/disappearing-9-patch-tutorial.html You just use charm squares to make 9 patches ... as many as the approximate size quilt you want to make ... then cut and re-sew them as shown. Add a border or not as you wish.
Have fun,
Pat

Another way to do a quick and easy baby quilt is to start with a panel -- you can just add borders to make it the size you want. Here's a photo of one I did -- the border is just different size squares of fabric that complements the colors in the panel. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v66/AuntiePam/babyquilt.jpg
On my site http://www.appliquequiltdesigns.com I have 5 different easy applique baby quilts, with directions on how to make each one. I also cover some of the traditional quilt blocks and have reviews of baby quilt books. Good luck in finding the perfect baby quilt.
