I am currently working on a sampler for my mother-in-law. I would like to find a quilt block pattern with "Richard", "Dick", "Father", or "Dad" in the title. It seems like all the sites I have found online require you to scroll thru hundreds of titles. Is there an easier way to find the block I need? Thanks!

Hi, Quilting4Fun!! Welcome to a great forum! Hope to see lots of you here! What a wonderful idea to make a sampler quilt! Is it a memory type quilt?

Here are a few suggestions:

Was he a grandpa? http://www.quilterscache.com/G/GrampysShirtsBlock.html

We'd love to see a picture of the finished quilt. Smile

OK there is a block called Father's Choice, but I can't find it online, but have it in a couple of my quilt block books. It looks like this
http://www.portup.com/~hjbe/quilt/sisters.html BUT instead of all the same colour, the coloured blocks in the centre forming a cross, are a different colour - so you would use 3 different fabrics total. Does that make sense? It almost looks like tulips in the corners.

I'll take another look around, though.

Fathers Choice is a block we are doing on another site for the month of June. There is a pic here: http://tinyurl.com/2pxeqg. But there are no cutting or assembly directions. PM me for more info. Wendy

Wendy, that block is only half square triangles and squares. It would be easy to draft it in any size you want it in. PM me if you need any help.

Ladies, Father's Choice is EXACTLY like Sister's choice (that I posted a link for), just a colour placement change. I like this block - must make some.......when??????? Smile

Here are the sizes for a 12" FINISHED block (from Judy Hopkin's book Once More Around the Block)
Light 4 squares @ 3 3/8" - cut in half diagonally ince
8 squares @ 3"
Medium 4 squares @ 3 3/8" cut once diagonally
4 squares @ 3"
Dark 5 squares @ 3"

The dark and light squares go through the middle, plus one light square per corner. Make HSTs of 4 each of the light and medium fabrics 0 these go beside the corner squares. The remaining medium squares go in the corner 4 patch units. Just look at the diagrams.

You guys are great! I haven't really gotten into the "forum" thing, but this could be so helpful! Oh...back to the block discussion.

She knows I am making a quilt, but not any more than that. I had her go to her local quilt shop and pick out 1/2 yard of something that struck her fancy. I have pulled other fabrics to build around the one she chose. I have used that fabric in some of the blocks, but not all. I want to use it as a border, and possibly the backing.

My goal for the sampler is to have all the blocks relate to her life (ex: Jan's fan (her name), Rocky Mountain Puzzle (born in CO), Army Star (my husband is in the Army, etc)). The funny thing is, I have the block, Sister's Choice, already done. I didn't do it in two colors, but 5 colors...maybe that changed the name???? I guess I could do the block again and then do it in different colors from the Sister's Choice??? I am finding that many blocks have several names, but guessing the color choice is what makes the name change. I also found online one called Daddy's 3-D tie...could use that one if needed. I have the EQ6 program, so if I have a pic, I can design on the computer for the measurements.

Thanks again for all the help...you will see me again...I promise.
