My guess is that the horse and the horseshoe are appliqued. They are simple enough shapes that you could stencil them. I have not done it yet, but I have seen the technique demonstrated. Find a simple drawing of a horse on-line or from a child's coloring book.

I am including a Double Wedding Ring pattern for a 20" block. That is pretty big. If you go much bigger than that, IMHO, you lose the effect of the design.

Hope this helps. BTW, I have never seen a Double Wedding Ring done in plaid before. I really like the look and it does lend itself to a western theme. Puts me in mind of lassos. Thanks for sharing.

The piecing on Shadows might go faster but the appliqued horse is quilt intricate and would take some time to do. Unless, of course, you stenciled it or used some other technique.

Thank you so much! the patterns that I found were 12" I believe. I think that this 20" will be perfect. I wish that I was not leaving for the beach this afternoon so I could go ahead and get started!
