Pat, I am well aware that Americans have been stitching flags since before there was a country. My own mother made service banners, which are also subject to federal regulation, during WWII. And I am not suggesting that anyone would intentionally or unintentionally be disrepectful of the flag. A red, white and blue banner to display a coin collection is not disrepectful because it is not a flag. Making a red, white, and blue banner that looks like a flag to hold a coin collection, is, in my opinion, skating on thin ice. Somewhere I choose not to go. This was not directed at you. Several folks were talking about making alterations, including me. It is amazing the number of people who do not know there are federal guidelines; we have all seen some crazy things done with the flag in an enthusiastic, but misguided display of patriotism. And I am not suggesting that anyone on this forum is among those. My sole purpose was to share the information that I had looked at so each quilter could make an informed decision, and would be comfortable with any alterations she might make to the project. Pretty strightforward; you'll find that I am not clever enough to be sinister. LOL
