I was asked in my introduction thread to give some information about the charity work that i got into quilting for. so here goes...get your coffee cause i LOVE to talk about BB.....

Brittany's Battle was founded in 2007 by Tammy Coppedge, who lost her daughter just 25 days after she was diagnosed with Lung Cancer in 2006. She was a NON smoker. Our mission is to provide information and support for families, caregivers, and friends whose loved ones are fighting their own battle with cancer; to raise awareness about lung cancer and childhood cancer; to provide research grants to those making progress in the battle against lung cancer.
We support UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Patient and Family Resource Center. We take the children new stuffed frogs and donate new books, new games, and DVD's to the Cancer Center and Resource Center. We also take toiletry kits and activity bags for the family members to have access to at the Cancer Center.
We would also like to incorporate a program where we are able to carry handmade lap quilts to pass out to the cancer patients during each visit. I have offered to volunteer to make the quilts as long I can get donations for the fabric, batting, muslin and thread (cream, to go with everything). I also told Tammy that i would stay on with this program for as long as she needs me!
If you are able to help me get some quilts made please let me know! The cancer patients at the Cancer Center range from infant to elders so any fabrics could be used. If you ladies are able to make a quilt that would be great or if you could send blocks, fabric, fleece, thread...ANYTHING!!, you ladies know what it takes to make a quilt, just keep in mind they need to be lap size. I just can't afford to furnish all the material myself.
I love Tammy andwant to do all I can for her.

Also there is a silent auction in the summer if you ladies would like to pull together to help me get a bed quilt (i was thinking full or queen) to give Tammy to put in the auction just let me know about that too!!

ok now go take your break and get the liquid bandaid...but i warned ya i would talk your ear off!

My goal is to make 50 quilts for Brittany's Battle and carry them to Lineberger Cancer Center for Christmas.

Hi, April,

Thanks for posting the info.

I have a couple of projects lined up in front of me that I need to complete before I can help, but I would be more than willing to make a lap quilt for one of the cancer patients.

Any particular size recommendations more specific than "lap" that you can provide would be helpful.

Can you use crib size?

I will get back to you for your address when I work on the quilt ...

Hi ladies!! I just got off the phone with Tammy (Founder of BB) she said that she has talked with the nurse and in order to make sure there is a quilt in every room we would need to have 50 or more (in case some would like to take a quilt home) I am asking for your help ladies...i can't make 50 quilts by christmas! (that's when we were hoping to present them to Linberger) Also someone asked what size needed to be made and tammy said that we would need to stick to around 40x50. Thank you so much!

April-
When I get my quilts finished up for Burn Camp this year, I would be more than happy to make a quilt or 2 for the Cancer Center.

I'll let you know when I get started on them. But don't expect anything until later in the summer, okay?
