Jami,
What a great organization you are a part of. I would love to help contribute quilts. I can't imagine what these children have suffered from the pain of burns, but I do know what being in foster care is like. I do know what it is like having a physical disability. I believe every child needs something to call their own. Something that speaks home, something that reminds them of love in the world that they can wrap all around them.
Thank goodness for the Angels in this world who give of their time and talents. I quilt because it is my passion, but I would love to give back somehow, someway. My heart is over flowing and perhaps the words do not come out right but your story of needing children touched me because once, a long time ago ,I was one in need, and now I can help & give back.
When I get some finished I will PM you for your address to send them to.

Happy quilting,
Rebecca P

Rebecca-
I would appreciated any thing you can do! This year, my numbers for boys is 14 so far...final numbers don't come out until about the middle of June. If a child sends in their paperwork for camp late, they still try to make it work so they can go. I don't think they have ever turned a child away. I only have 1 little girl so far, and I do have 3 tops that can only go to a girl (boys just don't like cute teddy bears, kittys and flowers! Big Grin )

I think that Alison (Burn Unit Nurse in charge of campers) is sending me updates as soon as she has them so I have an idea of the rough numbers.

Somewhere we (firefighters) are failing in the fire safety and prevention programs. These numbers are supposed to go down, not up!!! I makes me so sad to see the number of new campers go up like this.

Thanks, Rebecca!!

My heart goes out to these kids, I commend you for all the wonderful work that you are putting into these quilts for these kids, and i agree 12 is a large number wonder if they are from the same area that might of burned?

I will do my best to make up some 12" blocks to send your way that will work for a boy in the next couple weeks.

I have always been interested in people who make me laugh!!! You can never have a dull moment with these people. And if you happen to have "one of those moments" then it's okay, they just laugh with you.

That will be wonderful Deb!

How are you feeling now? I've been worried about you! Your health comes first here! If you don't feel up to it right now, there is always next summer's camp!

Just checking my mail, I am fair to middlin' as they say, the surgeon wont operate right now on this last lump that I found and that is just peachy for me he will give it a look in a month or sooner if it changes---the last 2 months have me drained and without energy and I am looking to get back to my sewing/quilting...my fav' Husq. machine is like me it is in the fixit shop right now waiting for a part but I am using my ole "Brother" quilting maching that I purchased several yrs ago and it sews just fine I just have my favorite I reckon!!!

I just got my bath and getting ready to go see my Oncologist today for my anti-hormone perscriptions and labs oh yea! what fun---but if I am up to the walking I will drop in by Hobby Lobby for a quilting fix, if I can't quilt maybe I can shop! LOL

What will we do if these gas prices don't stop rising? I try to run at least 2 errands on one trip this way I am not making extra trips and wasting on my fuel. On my last trips there I went by the mascetomy bra shop and purchased me a couple new bras for summer and a new Jodee "tank" bathing suit top that is perfect for my situation! then went by Sears and found 2 sets of bottoms that look like bathing shorts not panties!!! I always try to be frugal with my gas and my shopping too. Sometimes I even see 2 docs in one day what a treat for me!!! LOL

Have a great & blessed day and I will see about working on those blocks and get them in the mail soon. Tell eveyone one Gomer says HEY and I miss them all dearly!!!
Love and hugs
Deb

So good to see your post Deb! It sounds like you have your sense of humor still and that is always a good thing.

Jami, I will be keeping up with this thread but just don't have the time to commit right now. I hope to get myself organized after all my June happenings.

Great hearing from you Deb and hear that you are middlin around, just hang in there and the strength will be with you each and everyday. On the gas prices I do the same thing trying to get as many errands in a one day time as much as possible, don't do any un-necessary going if at all possible. Not sure what the summer will hold as this is the time when everyone is home and gets bored rather quickly except for DH and myself we always find our hobbies to keep us busy, so take care of yourself and continue to check in and let us know how you are doing, my prayers are still with you!!!

I only quilt on Day's that End in " Y "!

Jami...Just wanted you to know that you inspird me to make "resuce" quilts for the police/fire department in my town. Decided it would be a great way to use up my stach, make room for new fabric, and give me a warm fuzzy. Deiced to use flannel sheets for batting since it would less bulky than batting so I ordered k-size sheet sets from overstock.com. Not doing too well on using up my stash since I don't have a lot of prints suitable for kids so off to JoAnns and so far have spent almost $200.00 on supplies! Eek BUT I do have 3 tops done. Plan is to have 25 donated by end of Aug. Too bad my job gets in the way of what I think I was destined to do...sew sew sew sew!

Keep on sewing!!!

Julie in NM

If you don't work on it, you'll never finish it!

Yeah, Julie!!!!! Yippee! Cheer Confetti

You know what? When you cut those fabrics up that you don't think work well for kids in small pieces, they work just great!!! I use what ever I have in the colorway I want!

I'm still plugging away at my quilts for the kids. This past week hasn't been to productive for sewing, what with working up at the tornado site in Parkersburg...Hopefully this next week will be better!

Jami,
I have one top done and ready to hand sew the binding. Do you want us to put a label or omit it?
