Rebecca-
I would like you to add a label...it just needs something simple. Maybe "Made for you by <name> from <City, State>" Miracle Burn Camp Summer 2008
I don't get real carried away with wording on the label, but I think it's nice to have a label on it.
I have received Thank You cards from the kids, with just my name and city, state. It's nice to live in a small community sometimes...everyone knows your name...including the postmaster! Big Grin

I am working on some blocks not sure when I can get them done last week wasn't a good week for me and this week might be a bit more promising, it is good to hear that there are others helping you and that it has spurred others to make quilts for their area. WTG ladies.

Happy Quilting!

Jami,

I am piecing the top for this quilt and should have it ready to send to you by early next week, if all goes according to plan.

I found some very colorful stock car and racing fabrics at my LQS. This will be one bright and happy quilt for a boy. Smile

Please PM me your address again. Any suggestions as to how best to mail this? I have never mailed a quilt before.

Jami,

I will be following this thread as well and when/if my time frees up, I'll send you something for next year's camp. I was burned pretty badly when I was a kid and I know what their going through, no grafting for me, though, just scars. Wish they'd had that camp in Massachusetts!

It's so nice that someone's offering them some comfort. I'll try to help when I can.

Jami,

My quilt is done. Smile

All I need to do is put on a label, take a picture and box it up and send it off ... hopefully tomorrow if I can make it to the post office.

Time to snooze for me ... Sleep

May some young man enjoy this quilt as much as I enjoyed making it for him and may his dreams be happy and his future bright.

AWESOME PAT!!! The photos were "good enuff" to see it and enjoy it! How fun it turned out, and you've made some young man veryyy happy!! Tell me...how did you get the writing on your signature block so crisp? Did you use a sharpie or one of those quilt marking pens? It’s fun...and bright! Very very nice!!

CheerBRAVO Cheer**patting you on the back** Great job!!

Thanks, Felicia and Rebecca, Smile

Rebecca, the pattern is actually a Thimbleberries flannel one: "Street Scene" ...
http://www.thimbleberries.com/patternDetail.cfm?patternID=104

... which is an idea I got from Felicia, as she has made a couple of very nice quilts with this pattern and has put some of her own twists on it ... Thanks, Felicia Wink

The fabrics I got from my friendly local novelty fabric loving quilt shop ...
http://www.bnpquilts.com/cgi-bin/Store/store.cgi?cart_i...oduct=novelty_racing
I used three cars prints (one is not shown here) and the flag print and the black and white check ...
... and to the racing cars I added four of Patrick Lose's bright "Sunstreaks" (this shop also has a very nice selection of tonals) ...
http://www.bnpquilts.com/cgi-bin/Store/store.cgi?cart_i...ml&product=tonal_sun

Felicia has suggested using this pattern for novelties so you do not cut them up too much ...

Instead, of leaving the center panel one whole piece, I decided to make simple pieced blocks. I did an easy Dissappearing 9 Patch in the center using 8 1/2 inch squares ... (this size left most of the cars whole and worked well with the two borders which are both 8 1/2 inches unfinished) ... I did three nine patches, with the check in the center, the cars on the corners and the sunsteaks in the crosses. When cut and resewn, this only made the center panel a few inches wder and chnaged the finished quilt size to 67 x 79.

The I borrowed another idea from Felicia and switched out the hourglass blocks for the Bright Hope variation of Happy Blocks, fussy cutting the race cars for the centers and using the four bright tonals for the borders.

I put the flag print in the inner border and the outer corner blocks and the four brights on the sides of the corner blcoks and one of the car prints in the outer border and bound it in the b/w check. The pattern calls for an extra wide binding. I cut it down an inch.

All of the dimensional cuts were either 8 1/2, 4 1/2 or 2 1/2 so it looked very well proportioned.

I am really happy with how this fell together. The quilting is only a basic cross-hatch done on my regular machine with a walking foot.

The whole quilt took me 11 days from cutting to binding.

I will definately make this pattern again and have fun playing with the pieces,

Pat
