Okay, ladies, here it is; the long awaited pincushion swap! Some of you expressed concern over not having time to make multiple pincushions, the expense of mailing them, and copyright issues if we just exchanged patterns. Some of you, like me, know that one pincushion isn't going to satisfy them. We have taken those concerns and your really great suggestions into consideration, and this is what Deb and I have come up with.

We are going to have four swaps this year (if there is still enough interest, we will consider doing it again next year as well). For each swap, each participant will make one complete pincushion, stuffed and all. Each person will receive one completed pincushion.

Each participant selects her own pattern, however simple or elaborate she chooses. You will know in advance who you are making your pincushion for, but not who is making yours until you receive it in the mail. The person receiving the pincushion will take a picture of it and post it in the album.

Each pincushion must be signed by the quilter making it.

Since we are doing this quarterly, we will identify the swaps seasonly (spring, summer, autumn, winter), but unlike other seasonal swaps there is not a seasonal theme. That is to say, for the spring swap, one does not need to pick a pattern or fabric that relate to spring. The pattern and fabric selection are strictly the choice of the maker, her creativity and sense of whimsy.

For the spring swap, Deb and I will accept sign-ups starting on February 1st. We will assign names on March 1st. Mail-out deadline will be April 1st.

Summer swap:
Sign-up starts May 1
Names assigned June 1
Mailing deadline July 1

Autumn swap:
Sign-up starts August 1
Names assigned September 1
Mailing deadline October 1

Winter swap:
Sign-up starts November 1
Names assigned December 1
Mailing deadline January 2

So, time to start gathering patterns. Gerda listed quite a few sources in this thread.

Doreen,

You are in, girlfriend! Deb and I want this swap to celebrate the creativity of the maker, whatever you choose is the right one. That goes for pattern, fabric, embellishments, size, stuffing material, etc. Other than requiring a signature, the only limits are the ones you place on yourself.
