MSplantladi I can relate we have been having wind too. I am in WA the Tri-Cities we are basically an irrigated desert. On a map we are just above Oregon in the middle. 2 hrs from Spokane, 4-6 hrs. to Portland or Seattle. It is a little chilly still right now but going to be upper 50s, breezy out there now. I need to go water I have seedlings up everywhere in ground and in my 10 1/2 wine barrels. Also in the house under lights. If you feel up to looking thru all my pics there is alot of the two locust trees down and all the progress of trying to get the stumps out and now the roots. When I first got here there were Juniper bushes around the house and the landlord and I pulled them out with chain and truck. Then I dug 2-3 ft. all around to get their roots out, one shovelfull at a time. There were also ugly red lava rock all around the back yard, ugly grass, & 2 big locust. I moved the rock behind the garage and planted where it was and made a shade garden. Also laid some bricks in squares for a path thru the trees & hung a hammock betwwen the trees. Then the trees finally came down and I dug all the grass up. I also dug to China under the biggest stump to try to get it out which we did. Guys came and ground on the other stump but they left alot. grrrrr. Last yr I got the wine barrels and hand cut them in half and planted food in them. Maybe it was the yr. before can't remember. I also planted next to the garage last yr. had beans, zuc, cuc, and other stuff. I've had mint & other stuff in pots that I stick in the ground where ever the mood strikes me. I have strawberries, peas and other stuff in boxes hanging on the fence. Ok I need to quit talking about it and get out there. Have a blessed day.

It never did really get nice today still gloomy and a bit chilly. I went out to water and got to the last barrel and my hose freaked out. I need to put a new end on it.grrrr. So I used the 6 water cans in the kitchen to finish watering the back yard and boxes on fence. Pretty much ate and did stuff indoors all day. I hate this weight I have to change my eating and sitting. I need nicer weather so I can keep on the move.

Okay, can somebody tell me what WOW means? I put it in my puzzler and have been puzzling and puzzling over it for weeks now!
I have a reconnaissance mission for all you folks in NHGC. I am looking for Margaret Rose tulips and for Margaret Rose dahlias (or gladiolas). I have not been able to find them for some time. A couple of years ago my sister gave me seeds for Margarita Rosita California poppies (I think). I would like a source for those too. All three are red and yellow and were named for Princess Margaret Rose. I am also looking for blue poppies- I think they are different from Himelayan poppies. I am looking for culinary poppies, where the seeds can be used in cooking. Does anyone grow culinary crocus for the saffron? Last season was the first season we grew it, but I think our crop went in too late. We are going to try again this year. I'm hoping that the weather starts warming up soon,as some of my seedlings are going to be ready to go outside in about 3 weeks.I've got 2 cold frames to help the shock, but temps below 28* will get plants in them, too. |

You sound like you are in Alaska, and it is colddddddddddddd up there. It uis to wet here for gardenbing right now, maybe soon the rain will slow so we can plant some veggies. What flowers I have is going to be all I have from now on, I had to give that great love up and come inside and do quilting~but better describes me to call me a piecer, I have more blocks made that I have tops put together to have qyuilted. When I joined here we all seemed to fall in love with every BOM quilt that came out that year so several of yus got caught up in trying to piece over a dozen tops at once. Some I have made into tops and many I have not yet. I sure miss my gardening but this is fun we can use bold color and floral fabrics to give me my high!!! LOL But now all of you are here and I ccan just sit here and drool over all sorts of beauties. I woild love to see more of your rock garden. Happy Quilting!
