I go outside in the morning when it is cool and nice and there are no bugs ... and I stay in and sew when it is hot, too rainy or too cold or after the bugs come out at night ...

scrapatches, I am like you, did some weeding this morning and now it is blistering hot out and going to sew. Want to finish the Cars (from the movie) single bed quilt. When it is a really cool day will cook ahead, several meals and some baking to use on hotter days. But this Car quilt is being done in dining room because sewing room at back of house upstairs and gets quite warm plus can drape a single bed quilt over dining table easier. Really want to finish it today. My dining room has been a mess for too long. Take care everyone. Grandma J
I always cook and bake when it is cool ... then I only add to it and using the grill when it is hot ...
My dining room doubles as my sewing room ... do not have one of those ... and if I did it would be in the attic ... in which case ditto on the heat ... I would be back downstairs ...
I am working on a twin size quilt with stock cars on it for a boy's bed ... trying to get it finished up ...
and my dining room needs some neating up ...
how is that for coincidence ?

Like most of you I used to follow that pattern of doing whatever needed to be done outdrs while the weather was cool and then come in to the house where is was pleasant to cook, bake and work on any sewing projects...ahh I remember those days....but now i don't have that luxury....hey its 3 am and I am awake guess I could go sew.....lol. dee

Oh boy..."decisions decisions"! That was the name of my first quilt..lol Anyhow... I had been an AVID & DEVOUT flower gardener for years and years, but for some reason I also collected fabrics. I didn’t do anything with the fabrics...just loved and enjoyed them. I was diagnosed as a "closet quilter" by a coworker about 2.5 years ago and that launched my quilting obsession. One thing I have noticed is that I find myself wanting to work with floral fabrics...and think of many quilts that involve floral themes. My two passions are perhaps melding.. .lol
When I moved to WA my yard soon taught me some HARD lessons...and I mean that literally. We have massive cedar trees on the property and they have sucked every nutrient out of the ground so that it’s like concrete. We amended an area into a beautiful bed and within 2 years of doing so the Cedar trees discovered the nutrients/mushroom compost....top soil... plentiful water..and they just took the beds over. No joke...the beds looked like they had giant LOOFAH sponges growing in them from end to end. We tried to restore the beds all one summer, but it was just tooooo disappointing. I knew the trees would continue to seek out what they needed. These are gorgeous massive trees and they shade our home so well in the summer that cutting them down is not an option. It really did put the damper on my flower gardening spirit. I’ve gone to container and window box gardening with my roses and other annuals. It’s fun.......but I don’t spend NEAR the time outside as I used to.
Having blabbed allllllllllllllll that...lol....this dilemma posed here is much like how a working mother has to figure out how to divide her time between raising her family, finding some time for herself...and her hobby. Oh.. I also got my first grandbaby 10 months ago so that’s also pulled me in yet another new AND WONDERFUL direction. I work too...so...I have many hurdles. The two hurdles I don’t have is that my kids are grown and gone...and my hub travels a lot so .....that does free up lots of my time.
Soooooooo..... I try to spend some quality time in my sewing room every day. Even if I just putter and straighten up fabrics. It makes me so happy to be in my sewing space. I still love my flowers, but I would say my gardening passion has definitely leaned towards more sewing. I do grow quite a few house plants....(27 African Violets and more on the way)...lol So..maybe I just moved my flower passion indoors. Yet... If I work outside in the sunshine I feel invigorated. What a typical Gemini response to this thread...lol
Soooooooooo......... I guess I do still love both hobbies. I will say that my hub and I have discussed selling our property...and buying a large condo. When he’s home we can just play with fishing and crabbing (which we both enjoy)...and when he’s gone.. I can just sew and relax. The way it is now we have a fair sized place and the yards are always tugging at us for major attention. I think this is one of the reasons I LOVE winter! I can hole up on my days off work...and sew until I’m cross eyed...lol
We have had NO SUMMER this year. Chilly temps remained allllll summer (even last night we built a fire before going to bed). So the efforts I did put into flower gardening were marginally rewarded. The efforts I put into sewing always make me happy...so... I think I’m confessing to a trend here.
Was this an answer??.... I don’t know. It’s my story...and I’m stickin’ to it...lolol

Felicia...oh girl I could have written most of your post...so many of your feelings on the gardening and sewing match mine exactly. Yes it seems natural the two loves go hand in hand. My kids tease me that my love of gardening comes from the fact I carve nurturing.Yes I love to plant and watch things grow as I give them my love and proper attention. Same w/ my quilting...growing a quilt from scratch...lol. Funny you said at least winter is coming so you can hibernate-I was justing thinking the same thing this past weekend. I have a new great grand baby coming and while I have sorta started on the pile of quilts I want to make I haven't really-if that makes sense, but I keep telling myself once it starts getting colder I will want to be in my sewing rm. I become martha stewart during the winter mths. More importantly I am learning to stop stressing over the " To Do " list. It will some how get done...so all that being said..."thats my story and I too am stickin w/ it"...lol dee-who welcomes the chilly days ahead second cup anyone? I have fresh hot zucchi bread to go with that coffee

( my kiddos tell me I do this a LOT ... ... I try to blame it on the fact that my DH has a hearing dissability and I have been trained not only to repeat myself at least four times but everything the kiddos' say that I know he has not heard ... particularly for my DD, whose voice is soft and just happens to fall most often in one of those frequencies he really cannot hear at all ... okay ... more than you wanted to know here ...)
