Are you familiar with the Sentimental Stitches website? Gayle (can't think of her last name at the moment) collects antique quilts and tops, any of which have original blocks in them, similar to the Dear Jane blocks. She makes the blocks available on her site a few at a time every week or month, depending on the quilt. Anyway, she started a new series for the the Sally Post Sampler, which was made in 1854. The first three blocks are here.

I do not know how much longer they will be available for free. BEGINNING MAY 4, for the next 30 days one new block will be posted each day for 24 hours only. This is in honor of her 30th wedding anniversary. If I read her newsletter correctly, she is giving permission to share as she knows not everyone can get to their computer everyday.

Hi, Meg,

Thanks so much for posting this and reminding us. Smile

I am printing the patterns as they come through and filing them away for the moment.

I have not done much applique but I am learning and I love this lovely, historical pattern.

Pat,

When I worked for the Ohio Historical Society, I made a number of 19th century dresses. I have some yardage leftover of a bittersweet fabric with an extremely small motif that puts me very much in mind of the original quilt. I need to find it and see if there is enough for this quilt. I had ear-marked it for something else, but if there is enough, this would be a much better use of it. We may have to start an album if enough folks decide to do this.

Am I reading her post write? She is going to post a block a day, leave it up for one day and than retire it? I thought at first it was a block a month but now it looks like it is a block a day. Did I miss something? Smile

Yes, Miki, you read the post correctly. According to the newsletter I recieved in my e-mail on May 3, Gayle had already posted the first three blocks (I just checked, they are still available). Beginning on the 4th, for the next 30 days, she is posting a new block every day for 24 hours only. According to her newsletter she is encouraging folks to use the buddy to collect them as not everyone has access to a computer everyday. When I checked, block 7 is up, apparently block 4 is still up today because there was some glitch with downloading it. You can get everything except blocks 5 & 6 today.
