I found this CUTEST pocket book pattern and i have the fabric to make it and a matching wallet (got that pattern at my guild meeting today, will share when i have time to type it out tonight) but my question with this pocketbook is, it's an open top pocketbook so i would like to add a button on one side and a folded biased binding strip on the other to make it a button close top.....I just need to know in which step or at what point do i need to add that strip so that the rugged edge is inside with the seams and the "loop" is outside to go around the button....any help would be greatly appreciated...thank you so much!!!

Well, if I am understanding your question correctly, you would do it when you stitch the lining to the outside of the bag.

Baste the loop to the right side (of the fabric)at the top of the outside of the bag. the loop will be facing away from the edge. The raw ends will be flush with te raw edge of the fabric or sticking over, you will need to adjust to suit your needs.

Place the right side of the lining together with the right side of the bag; the loop will be sandwiched in between. I suspect the directions have you leaving an opening in the bottom of the lining so the whole thing can be turned right side out. Then you will whip stitch the opening shut and attach the continuous loop handles.

April ...

very cute bag ... Smile

I would add the loop for the button in Step 9 ... when you add the straps. Center it (if that is where you want your button to be) and sew it securely in place as you do with the strap ends. Also, as with the strap ends, make sure it tucked down out of the way of being caught in the stitching you do around the top of the bag in Step 10.

I would sew the button on last. If you wanted to hide the stitches in the back of the button, you could try to sew the button on in Step 9, but if you do, be sure it is far enough down from the top that you do not hit it with the needle when you sew around the top.

I look forward to seeing a picture of your completed bag. You certainly are a busy, busy quilter. Smile

Hope I have been a help,

Pat
