Hi ladies,
Was at a flea market Sunday and picked up this interesting older quilt top for $6. Problem is, I can't identify the block. Can any of you wise ladies figure out the name of this block??

According to Barbara Brackman's Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns it is known by several names. I will list the publication and date as well.
Denver (Hearth and Home)
Boston Pavement (Farmer's Wife)
Spider Web (McKim 101)
Mystic Maze (Nancy Cabot 9/36)
Merry Go Round (Nancy Cabot)
Amazing Windmill (Nancy Cabot)
Autumn Leaves (Capper's 10/22/32)
Hope this helps; wish I could go flea marketing with you!

Thanks, Meg! Hey, if you are ever inclined to take a trip to my part of the country, come on the first Sunday of the month. Decatur has a big flea market that day, and there are nearly always old quilts, tops, blocks, etc. for sale. The top I bought Sunday is in pretty good condition - didn't find any holes, and only a couple "age spots" that I think I can get out. I want to get the top quilted - would love to do it by hand but don't have time right now - so I'm thinking of sending it to a machine quilter. Will depend on whether or not hubby gets a job soon as I just can't spend much until I know we'll have a stable income.

Thanks for ferretting out the name of the block for me.

My first thought was Spider Web. I love good finds at Flea Markets and Garage Sales!

Interesting choice of words! LOL! Okay, I have to ask- did you watch the 45th anniversary showing of "The Great Escape" on TV this week? LOL The POW's referred to the prison guards who looked for tunnels and the tools of escape as "ferrets". I think this is the closest I will ever get to the King of Cool, Steve McQueen! LOL Big Grin Wink Razz

Seriously, Nola, it was my pleasure. You know how I love puzzles and riddles, and history. Tracking down quilt patterns is more fun than a game of "Clue!" And if the price of gas ever goes down I just might be on your doorstep some Sunday morning! With the two of us, that poor fleamarket is gonna think a cyclone hit them! LOL
