OH< WOW!!! ladies, I was at the Vendor's Mall yesterday, on opening day of our guild's week-long quilt show (in conjunction with the 100th birthday of Stony Plain, AB, where our guild is) and I saw the most amazing table topper/large trivet. Look at this!! http://www.djrichardsdesign.ca/folded_snowflakes.html and another one http://www.djrichardsdesign.ca/folded_christmas_star.html She has some wonderful patterns, http://www.djrichardsdesign.ca/ not sure of the price, and I didn't snap up the pattern though I can order one through one of these shops (I don't know if any American shops carry her) http://www.djrichardsdesign.ca/retailers.html The first two were vendors here. I spent a few dollars at the show, and hope to order this one someday soon.

Well, I could run right over to Sarnia, and pick up a pattern or two. Do you think the border guards would accept needing a quilting fix as a legitimate reason for crossing the border? LOL
Gerda, those are some neat patterns!!!! I hadn't thought of using a bowl to hold the yo-yos. I was thinking of an idea of making one of the jars 3-dimensinal and put some kind of plastic on the jar and put yo-yos between the two materials. Just hadn't found the right jar material.

Ruth, if you'd like, I can order you one (actually, Doni at the C ottonPatch Quilt shoppe in East Tawas, MI, is ordering one for me http://www.cottonpatchfabrics.com - I can also order them from the shop in Sask. where I saw it,http://www.veronicasewingsupplies.com/ I guess I should have mentioned that to Doni! OopS! )
It was just gorgeous in real life!! I had thought maybe I could figure it out from a pic online, but the pic's not big enough for that and doesn't show the pieces outlines. Let me know.

Meg, go for it! I'm sure the guards have heard every reason under the sun - or close to it! It would make a great day trip - hey, we need to spread the wealth, right?

If I wasn't confused in the other thread about geography, now I surely am. Why whould you have a quilt shop in the U.S. order a pattern for you and have to pay all that extra postage when you get one from a shop in Canada? Wouldn't it be much less expensive? I'm just thinking you could buy quite a few FQ's with that postage from Michigan.
Well, it would be quicker to drive up to Port Huron and cross the Blue Water bridge into Sarnia, but it would be more scenic to cross here in Detroit and drive up the far side of Lake Saint Clair. Any of you Great Lakes States gals feel like a road trip?
And who knows, if I crossed in Detroit I might even run into DS1's 6th grade teacher. He was a part-time border guard. Once my red head was coming back from Windsor with a bunch of rowdy friends, and his former teacher started to give them a hard time. My son pulled off his baseball cap and said, "Mr. ________, it's me." Mr. ______ just rolled his eyes back into his head and waved them through.
Meg, I'm ordering from Veronica's in Saskatchewan. I e-mailed Doni because she is always on the lookout for new designers and patterns, and I guess I was clear as mud in my message to her. It read like I wanted to order from her - I hope I have cleared it up with her - I will be ordering something else from her shortly, I think. She has some great snowman fabric coming in, and if my LQS doesn't have it, I'll order from Doni.
Wish I lived closer, so I could go along. BTW, I was talking to my sisters late last week, and the one in St. Catharines said to let her know when the retreat was on, and I was at our other sister's in GR, and she would re-schedule at work, and drive down. Maybe she'll join us in Shipshewana for a few hours. That would be so cool!
OK, gotta go back outside and figure out where to put the container I just shook some columbine seeds into - hopefully they'll sprout before the freeze up - then I can transplant them into the garden for next year. Hmmm, maybe I should also be thinking of another spot to naturalize them, that hubby would NOT mow down!!
Later!!
