Michelle-

I believe oversew is what I was taught as overcast stitching. It is to sew two pices together with small, close stitches that cover the the edge of both.

I just took that to mean an over hand type stitch. just basically, over/under. you could also blanket stitch it , but it's much easier doing the other stitch. have fun and post somepics!!

Thanks for the responses, ladies! I thought oversew meant to do just that, I just had not heard the term. I did, however, look at the actual picture (so adorable!) and noticed that the stitches were visible. I'm going to try it now on my lunch half-hour.

This little guy is sooo cute! Want to make some for quilter friends but like my PC to be heavy so they stay still when I'm pushing pins in and out. What should I use WITH batting to weight them down? Only ideas I can come up with are rice and kitty litter. Thanks for the help.

How about dried beans or maybe a very small river stone?

I was always told to put barley in your pincushions. It helps to keep your pins sharp. Seems to work for me. I have a Barley Chicken pin cushion pattern, really cute, just two small log cabin blocks.
