Hi Deb...that block is beautiful, right size or not. If your templates are accurate and your seam allowance is exactly 1/4" then the only variable I can think of is in your pressing. Is your fabric pre-washed and are you using steam when you press? If the answer is yes to either of those, could it be you are shrinking the block as you press? That is the only thing I can think of.

Gerda's idea to add sashing strips sounds good to me. And then you say "that is the way it is supposed to be". Whatever you do, the block is a keeper. If you don't use it in your Syvia's quilt, then you must save it for a another sampler or project.

FloridaDeb could you use some of that beautiful rose colored fabric and put a very small border around it to make it 6.5?

Thanks for the remarks on the block, yes I really like this one too.....But I know me and I cant just put a border around it...sigh... I will have to redo it!!! Big Grin Big Grin
Mary you might be onto something with your idea, I didnt prewash this as the lady at the quilt store said I didnt need to with the better quality fabric. I am going to wash it now just incase it is that!... I normally prewash, why I didnt just do it my normal way is beyond me....
I will find something to do with this block though. Big Grin

Deb, I am SICK about your block being not the right size.
I will tell you that even the "Queen of Hand Piecing" (Jinny Byer) could do NO better than you did on that block....it is breathtaking!TX

FL Deb
I love your block is it asesome! W2G! Smile
I am glad you posted a pic because that is the one that I have printed for making next! When I make a pattern that has a lot of seam like this one does...I don't make my seams a full 1/4" I have learned it makes the pattern just a tad smaller when it has lots of seams!

BTW Where did you get your rose fabric I would love some that color too!

Happy Quilting!

Debo...I never prewash anything...but depending upon your fabric and your pressing process I know you can shrink your blocks.

I'll probably be scare for the rest of the week since my youngest GD will be here and wanting me to help her work on the quilt she started last year. I will check in from time to time though. Hope you all have a happy piecing week.

Deb, your block is awesome! If you decide you can't use it in the Sylvia's sampler, it would make a wonderful label. You did a great job!

I have heard that Mary. Smile

Most always prewash my fabrics if you meant me not sure if you meant me or FL Deb.

I never steam my block I have heeard somewhere not to do that, I don't remember why! I usually finger press my seams as I go on occassion I have pressed them open. I like the way the seams will butt up together and lock to make a perfect seam match.
